The new preview shows that its styling is familiar from the existing Yaris, but with the addition of far wider rear wheel arches and an aggressive bodykit to fit the car’s likely high performance brief. At the launch of the revamped Yaris recently, Toyota’s executive vice-president, Matt Harrison, told Autocar that a performance version of the model would likely be launched to strengthen the link between Toyota’s road cars and its Gazoo Racing motorsport arm. Toyota has applied various levels of branding under the Gazoo Racing theme in order to develop a model structure for its high-performance models. These include the hardcore limited-run GRMN versions that are positioned above models that carry the GR badge, which represents an ‘authentic sports model’. The 2020 Triumph Tiger 900 is bigger, better and oh-so-modern

For a bike that claims a heritage as the longest-serving adventure bike in motorcycling history the first Triumph Tiger appeared way back in 1936 the 2020 Tiger 900 looks pretty darned modern.Electronically adjustable suspension? Check (even if its only available on the rear shock of one particular trim, its still pretty darned impressive for a middleweight).Six riding modes? Again with the affirmative, the Rally Pro model offering riders the choice between Rain, Road, Sport, Off-Road, Rider-configurable and Off-Road Pro configurations.Hell, 
theres even a My Triumph connectivity app controlled by a joystick on the handlebar. The Millennials will be so happy. Of course, theres a lot more to the new Tiger 900 than just high-techery, the most obvious addition Triumphs middleweight triple has enjoyed being yet another boost in displacement to 888 cc that gives it a nice, healthy increase in torque.Officially, Triumph claims the 900 is good for 64 ft-lbs and 94 horsepower, significant increases both over the outgoing 800 model. Better yet, those 64 torques are produced at a relatively low for a mid-displacement triple at 7,250 rpm. The new Tiger should have some grunt!It will certainly have superior suspension and, in a major upgrade, true off-road worthiness. In the first case, while the three street-oriented models make do with 180 millimetres and 170 mm of suspension travel (front and rear, respectively) for the top-line GT Pro model, the rear Marzocchi shock is electronically adjustable for rebound damping and spring preload (this last being very important if you often carry a passenger and luggage).The off-road models, meanwhile, get upgraded Showa suspension with 240 mm and 230 mm of travel front and rear. And in a response to the many Tiger 800 owners who ventured deep into wood and briar, the 900 gets a removable rear subframe holding the seat and luggage in case the tubing gets bent in a serious get-off.Other noteworthies are Brembo Stylema four-piston front brakes, a low-seat-height GT model and secure mobile phone storage, along with a 5V USB power port. Electronic cruise control is available, as are heated grips and even a heated seat (with separate pillion temperature control, says Triumph).Throw in more than 65 Tiger-specific accessories including Trekker and Expedition packages and you can outfit the new 900 for both on- and off-road adventures. The Lexus UX gets a refresh for 2020, ups the tech quotient

Lexus is updating its UX for the 2020 model year, to cram in more tech and better connectivity.There are two powertrain choices, the standard being a 2.0-litre four-cylinder that produces 168 horsepower, sending power to the front wheels via a CVT transmission. The second option is a hybrid powertrain built around a 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder, coupled to Lexus fourth-generation self-charging gasoline-electric system.The hybrid option makes 181 horsepower, sending gasoline power to the front wheels via a CVT and using an electric motor for the rear wheels to make the vehicle all-wheel-drive. Lexus says more than 95 per cent of customers choose the hybrid.Taking a page from Tesla, the Lexus UX can now be unlocked with an included key card when specced in the Luxury trim options. Android Auto and Apple Carplay are now available as standard.The base model UX starts well-optioned at $37,450, featuring heated and ventilated front seats and 17-inch alloy wheels. Stepping up to the Sport Series 1 at $39,750 adds a heated steering wheel, LED fog lamps, F SPORT appearance package and 18-inch alloys.Hybrid models feature the same standard equipment, as well as all-wheel-drive, starting at $40,000. Grenfell garage to electrify classic Volkswagens

German classic car electrification specialist eClassics has chosen a struggling Kensington garage as its first UK outlet, saving it from closure in the wake of the Grenfell disaster.  Earlier this year, eClassics worked with Volkswagen to produce an electric version of the original Type 1 Beetle, using the motor, battery and gearbox from the e-Up city car. A deal with the manufacturer allowed eClassics to put the model into limited production using genuine parts, and it’s now on sale in Germany with a starting price of €99,000 (£84,000).  Jack’s Garage – located close to the 24-storey apartment block where 72 residents died in a fire two years ago – will be the first business in the UK to electrify classic Volkswagens using genuine manufacturer-supplied parts.  The classic Volkswagen specialist has suffered in the wake of the tragedy; owner of 12 years Joseph Salama told Sky News: “The first year after the fire was diabolical to say the least. In the first few weeks, the roads were closed, clients couldn’t get in, we weren’t getting paid and suppliers couldn’t deliver parts. Effectively, our production (and) our restoration ceased overnight.” Turnover was down £100,000 year-on-year over the course of the next six months, so Salama was forced to lay off half his workforce. He attributes the extended decline to the continued presence of the burnt-out tower nearby, which customers preferred to avoid.  The new deal with eClassics is expected to improve the garage’s future viability and expand its customer base. “I’ve already had enquiries from America, Europe and the UK,” Salama said.  Initially, Jack’s Garage will offer the conversion package used to create the e-Käfer demonstration car earlier this year. There are plans to bring electric versions of the Volkswagen Type 2 van and Beetle-derived Porsche 356 to market as well.  UK prices for the electric Beetle aren’t yet confirmed, but eClassics sales director Gianfranco Pizzuto told Sky News that “the estimated cost of transforming an old VW Beetle is £40,000, and it could take some time before that cost is brought down”.  Jack’s Garage joins a number of UK businesses already electrifying classic cars. New 2020 Ford Kuga: UK pricing and specs revealed

Ford has released UK-specific pricing and trim level details for the new, third-generation Kuga SUV. It’s priced from £23,995, with priority deliveries of the high-spec First Edition models early next year. The base price gets you in a Zetec model powered by a 118bhp 1.5-litre Ecoboost turbo petrol engine. The other trims are Titanium (from £27,245), ST-Line (from £29,345), ST-Line X (from £30,645) and Vignale (from £31,945). All Kugas come as standard with the Ford Pass Connect embedded modem, wireless smartphone charging and “advanced driver assistance and safety features”. First Edition variants of Titanium and ST-Line models bring a Bang Olufsen sound system and the Driver’s Assistance Pack. Further engine options include a 148bhp 1.5-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre diesels, the latter of which is also available in 187bhp form or 148bhp form with mild hybrid tech.  A new plug-in hybrid option is also available from £33,095 in Titanium trim – the same price as the higher-powered 2.0-litre diesel.  The Kuga has been redesigned from the ground up in a bid to attract more buyers in the still-booming family SUV sector, and the new model will be offered with petrol, diesel, mild hybrid, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. As Ford ramps up its European business restructuring, SUVs will play a crucial role. “One in three sales across Europe are SUVs, and for us it’s one in five. We want to change that,” Jorg Beyer, managing director of product development, told Autocar.  The hybrid line-up in particular is expected to be key to attracting new customers.  Ford has beaten many of its rivals to market with its plug-in hybrid option, which mates a 2.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine with an electric motor and 10.3kWh battery to deliver 222bhp. The model can travel up to 34 miles on electricity alone, giving it an official economy figure of 201mpg on the WLTP cycle in PHEV operating mode (or 43.5mpg WLTP with no charge in the battery). Official CO2 emissions are just 29g/km.  Buyers will also able to choose a regular hybrid set-up, akin to that of the Toyota Prius, linking the 2.5-litre petrol engine to an electric motor and smaller battery to deliver 50.4mpg and 130g/km. A 48-volt mild hybrid setup is mated to a 148bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine to offer 56.5mpg and 132g/km. Conventional 1.5-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel variants are also available, mated to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox. Front and four-wheel drive are both available.  Also striking is the new, more sophisticated and less boxy look of the third-generation Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson rival. The styling moves Ford’s design language another step on from the more contoured lines of the latest Fiesta and Focus. The interior also follows those cars, delivering an uncluttered, sweeping look despite the raft of technological functions that are offered, the majority of which are controlled through the central touchscreen.  The Kuga sits on the same C2 platform as the new Focus, being longer, wider and having a larger wheelbase – and therefore improved stability and dynamics – than the car it replaces. The platform is also said to be 10% torsionally stiffer than the outgoing car’s, as well as supporting the basis for a more aerodynamic design and allowing weight savings of up to 90kg over today’s model.  In particular, the new Kuga is said to deliver more interior room than before, including what Ford says is class-leading space for rear-seat passengers thnks to an 89mm length increase. In the front, occupants get 43mm more shoulder room and 57mm more hip room than in the current model, while in the rear there is a 20mm increase in shoulder room and 36mm more hip room, while the seats, split 70:30, slide fore and aft as standard. This increased rear accommodation has been achieved in part by setting the dashboard closer to the engine bay bulkhead and positioned more upright than before, allowing front seat passengers to be seated farther forward.  Despite sporting a dramatic, sloping roofline and an overall height that is lower by 20mm than that of the outgoing car, the new Kuga also offers 13mm more head room in the front and 35mm in the rear, thanks to clever interior packaging.  New technology for the Kuga includes Ford Pass Connect, which can provide wi-fi connectivity for up to 10 devices, a head-up display, wireless charging for a phone, a system that automatically brakes the car if it drives forwards or backwards into crossing traffic and a self-parking system that can parallel park or drive into a space perpendicular to the car at the push of a button. An electric Mustang coupe is inevitable, says Ford engineer

The electric Ford Mustang is coming, but nobody knows when, Motoring reports.According to Ron Heiser, chief engineer behind the new Mustang Mach-E utility, a non-SUV Mustang with battery power is an inevitability.I think if you look out in the future who knows what timeframe that is the market is eventually going to roll over to EVs, Heiser told Australias Motoring.The next-generation Mustang is rumoured to sit atop a modified Explorer SUV chassis, which will set up the vehicle with a hybrid option for the first time.While an electric Mustang is likely already in the works, it wont share that same platform. Luckily, Ford already has a new EV-capable platform in the form of the Mach-E. The Mustang Mach-E debuted riding on a modular platform set to underpin a few different electric vehicles of various sizes, with either front- or rear-wheel-drive. Its likely a modified version of this platform will underpin the future electric pony.The Mach-E took the name of the classic muscle car, but not all vehicles that ride on the platform will wear the Mustang badge.It doesnt need to have a Mustang name on it, but we chose the first vehicle on this platform to be a Mustang, said Heiser. Walking into Kia Sherbrooke to shop for a new vehicle, Sonia Blais was not in high spirits.The special education teacher from Magog, Quebec had recently become a single mother of two, with a looming divorce sapping her finances, an expensive holiday season at her door and an already harsh winter blowing over her Eastern Townships home.But a new car is what she need, so after weighing her options, she picked out a Kia Soul, a stylish subcompact, delivered, of course, with Quebecs mandatory winter tires. She paid via a roughly $25,000 loan, with financing.The purchase also made Blais, unbeknownst to her, Kia Canadas one millionth customer, a milestone that coincidentally lined up with the Korean brands 20th anniversary in this country.Even more coincidentally, Kia Sherbrooke was among the brands first concessionnaires here, selling more than a handful of the first 1,417 Sportage and Sephias to hit Canadian shores back in 1999.When Kia head office rang dealership owner Daniel Beaucage, from Groupe Beaucage, over Blais new purchase, he assumed it was over a problem with the order. Not quite, it turns outBlais was invited back to the dealership with her millionième Kia for a little ceremony this past Thursday, hosted by the new VP and COO of Kia Canada, Elias El-Achhab.She figured out from that she was in for some sort of surprise. Porsche and Tesla shine in NCAP crash tests

The new Porsche Taycan has scored five stars in the latest round of Euro NCAP crash tests, coming second only to the Tesla Model X in its category ratings. The Taycan, tested in entry-level 4S guise and equipped with the Performance battery package, scored above 80% for both adult and child occupant safety, with Euro NCAP stating that “a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sitting in different positions”.  The Tesla Model X, being tested for the first time since its UK launch in 2016, follows in the footsteps of the newer Model 3, which also achieved a five-star rating this year. Euro NCAP praised the electric SUV’s autonomous emergency braking system, claiming that collisions were “avoided or mitigated in most cases”.  Also awarded five stars in NCAP’s penultimate testing round of 2019 were the new Ford Kuga and similarly sized Renault Captur, Audi Q7, Subaru Forester, Ford Mondeo and the 2020 Skoda Octavia, tested in estate form.  The Volkswagen Sharan and its Seat Alhambra sibling achieved four stars, with the Sharan penalised for a poor performance in the ‘side pole test’, in which the left-hand rear door detached during the impact, presenting what motoring researcher Thatcham called “a risk of occupant ejection”.   NCAP stated that although the platform-sharing MPVs have been on sale in their current form since 2010, “the VW Group has done a fine job in keeping them up-to-date in terms of safety, with the addition of autonomous emergency braking and rear seatbelt load-limiters”.  Rounding off the latest round of results is the facelifted Jeep Renegade, which scored three stars, making it the only car to achieve less than four stars in 2019. The small SUV’s low overall score is attributed largely to a 55% rating for its ability to protect vulnerable road users. Unlike the other models tested, autonomous emergency braking is not fitted as standard to the Renegade.  Euro NCAP secretary general Michiel van Ratingen said: “Well done to Tesla and the other five-star performers for not only bringing best-in-class performance in testing but also for making safety systems accessible and standard across the European market. “It is also good to see manufacturers – Ford and Volkswagen in this case –standardising AEB and keeping safety up-to-date even for older cars, to the benefit of their customers.” The next round of crash test results will be released on 18 December

Here at Driving, we dont usually cover mid-model refreshes you know, those largely cosmetic functionally-unchanged updates automakers try to pass off as all-new models.But were making an exception for Jaguars new 2021 F-Type because a) the already-sexy sports coupe has been rendered even more sensuous; and b) it was introduced with a tremendously cool Hot Wheels track that ran through Jaguars entire Gaydon design facility.Indeed, Jag says the entire track stretches 232 metres 761 feet from its top-of-stairs, soapbox-style launch to its outdoor, running-into-the-real-F-Type finale. And, according to our count, there are no less than 25 of Hot Wheels famous loop-the-loops and three Jaguar calls them gravity-defying jumps that I am sure, what with my experience some 50 years ago, took multiple takes.In between, the camouflaged it is a super-secret prototype after all! miniature raced past CAD/CAM prototyping computers, a pretty nifty clay model of the Jag two-seater, through the headrest of the revised Windsor leather front seats and through the prototyping final assembly area. In between, Mattel estimates the tiny F-Type reached scaled speeds of 480 kilometres an hour!According to Jaguar, Mattel used the companys own CAD drawings to craft the ultra-precise 3D-printed model, recreating, says the company, every beautiful detail of the new F-Type, including its striking new clamshell bonnet, distinctive super-slim Pixel LED headlights and more sculpted front and rear bumpers. The Hot Wheels team also faithfully recreated the new Velocity Blue colour which Jaguar is making a big noise about from the SVO Premium Palette, and even hand-painted the F-Type badge on the back before the model was camouflaged ahead of its own reveal in the film.As for the car itself, the 2021 Jaguar F-Types powertrains turbocharged 2.0-litre four, 3.0L supercharged V6 and supercharged 5.0L V8 remain largely unchanged, although the all-wheel-drive Rs honking V8 gets a boost from 550 hp to 575, good enough, says Jaguar, to scoot to 100 kilometres an hour in just 3.7 seconds.Coping with that increased power is the Rs uprated chassis that includes stiffer springs and anti-roll bars, beefier rear knuckles and ball joints and revised adjustable shock damping.As for styling, a new clamshell bonnet is bordered by super-slim Pixel LED headlights and a subtly enlarged grille. Theres also something Jaguar calls Liquid Metal surfacing, but if youve got any idea what that is, let me know.The hind end likewise gets a design, this time with what Jaguars styling boffins call an unmistakeable chicane signature to its LED lights. Again, I will plead artistic cretinism, but the automaker says theyre inspired by the Jaguar I-PACE all-electric Performance SUV, with subtle monogram pattern detailing and a fine pinstripe beneath.Inside, theres the aforementioned Windsor leather and something called satin finish Noble Chrome.
