Cadillac furthered its recent product blitz January 2019 with the reveal of the brand’s first EV. This will be the first model derived from GM’s future EV platform.Handout / Cadillac The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is an annual show once renowned for debuting new technology from the worlds of TVs and cell phones, but now its becoming a popular destination for automakers to reveal their self-driving and electric vehicle ventures.Unless youre GM, of course, and you decide to skip the event completely because your prototype vehicles arent finished.Yes, the vehicle the automaker had planned to unveil was simply not going to be ready for CES in time, GM confirmed to Motor Trend, likely due to the 40-day UAW strike that hit the company this past fall. However, Motor Trend notes it also received an invitation from Cruise, GMs self-driving brand, to a standalone event near the end of January, in San Francisco. The magazine theorizes that event could show off the self-driving Cruise AV robotaxi, a vehicle GM had first planned to build an entire fleet of by now. The vehicle that was supposed to debut at CES was, thus, more than likely a different vehicle, possibly a production version of the unnamed electric crossover Cadillac showed off at the Detroit auto show in January 2019.Cadillac will now likely save any new model reveals until after the release of the 2021 Escalade, scheduled to drop in February. The brand also plans to release a new or redesigned vehicle every six months through

We take on some of Atlantic Canada’s worst roads in a new Cadillac
In most parts of the country, carping about the state of this nations roads is an art form. New expletives have been crafted solely for use when ones brand-new set of winter tires slam into an unexpected pothole. Fillings have been jarred loose by washboard road surfaces. Alignment mechanics rejoice the former, dentists do brisk business with the latter. Hey, at least someone is making bank off our rough roads.Yelling into a vacuum yields little, so CAA holds an annual campaign in which Canadian road users including cyclists, pedestrians, motorists, and users of public transit are encouraged to cast a vote for what they feel is the worst road in their region. Every road is eligible, regardless of surface type or length.Across Canada, wild temperature swings and an abundance of road salt conspire to scupper even the best paving job. Jagged lines cut every surface like a botched episiotomy, with macadam crumbling like day-old sponge cake. Armed with CAA’s list of Ten Worst Roads in the Maritimes and the keys to a 2020 Cadillac XT6 crossover, we decided to seek out these potholed pavements in an effort to gauge the state of our roads.Would the Cadillac provide a comfortable journey? Will this infrastructure hammer our spines into oblivion? Did I make a theme-based playlist filled with The Stones and the score from Rocky? The answers to those questions were yes, no and an emphatic yes.Our pothole-tamer: the Cadillac XT6First, the Cadillac. The luxury arm of General Motors has been fiddling with their Standard of the World for a few years now, rolling out two new sedans and three new crossovers in quick succession. The XT6 is the largest of these, acting as a draw for customers seeking a snazzy three-row machine with all-wheel-drive. Cadillac already has a three-row SUV in its quiver of course, but the large-and-in-charge Escalade scares away some customers thanks to its bulk and truck-based roots. For anyone trading out of an Acura MDX or Volvo XC90, the XT6 will be much more approachable.Outside, the Cadillac certainly looks the part, with our Sport-trimmed tester dipped in $900 worth of inky Stellar Black Metallic paint. Unlike the Premium Luxury models, the Sport eschews all exterior brightwork save for a spear along its lower flanks and one edging the perimeter of its front grille. A completely blacked-out grille, bookended with headlights narrowed like the eyes of a stern headmaster, is a dealer-installed accessory and should be fitted to every XT6 regardless of colour.Pine Glen RoadPointing the long XT6 nose containing a 3.6-litre V6 engine making 310 horsepower towards New Brunswick, we set off in search of what CAA has deemed to be some of Atlantic Canadas worst roads. Plugging the street of Pine Glen Road just outside of Moncton into the Cadillacs satnav is easy thanks to recent changes. Now deploying a rotary dial incorporating jog functions into the system, CUE is no longer an exercise in frustration. The drive to Pine Glen Road is an exercise in cutting through early morning fog on the Cobequid Pass, a stretch of road notorious for its pristine pavement but reliably horrid weather. With no sinkhole (yet) consuming the Trans-Canada Highway near Oxford, we carried on to Moncton, the land of St. Hubert and Jean Coutu pharmacies.Turning on to Pine Glen Road, a long stretch connecting far flung communities with the city of Moncton, we find pristine pavement. A quick check of the satnav confirms we are indeed on the correct path, even if the macadam were traversing looks as far from a Worst Road contender as your author looks like a Chippendale model. What happened?Councils take the CAA Worst Roads lists seriously, is what happened. A few clicks down Pine Glen Road we happen upon a large road crew, feverishly laying new tar atop the old crumbled surface. Stopping to chat with the site foreman, he explained theyve been on the job since August, upgrading a road thats heavily travelled by woods trucks and the general public alike.Using heavily calloused hands to adjust his white hard hat, the man looked proud to be working on the project. If the sign posted by a local church is anything to go by, locals are pretty proud as well. All good things must come to an end, of course, and the new pavement disappears as one drives deeper into Pine Glen Road. By the time were out of the residential areas and into the wooded areas, its easy to see why this road made CAAs top ten. Its most heavily travelled section, however, is now billiard-table smooth thanks in no small part to The List and a crew of hard-working pavers.Working the lozenge-shaped shifter to handle a three-point turn in a roadside cutout was more frustrating than strictly necessary, given the button-and-lever dance one has to do in order to engage reverse gear. GM is not likely to change its design anytime soon, since the thing has popped up in everything from this Cadillac to Buicks to the Chevy Bolt. Electronic shifters are tremendous,

Cadillac is going back to real names for its cars as it switches to EVs
The 2016 Cadillac Escala concept. Cadillac is changing its naming scheme back to actual words, ditching the alphanumeric convention that, to some, has felt less-than-personable these past few years. The rollout of the electric vehicles is the time well start to move back toward naming, said Cadillac President Steve Carlisle. The name change comes as Cadillac prepares to launch a host of new battery-electric vehicles, according to Automotive News. The original alphanumeric nomenclature was the brainchild of Johan de Nysschen, Carlisles predecessor, who also worked at Audi and Infiniti. The idea behind it was to give a more European feel to the brand as well as a clear hierarchy, with names like XT5 and CT6, but it also meant dropping historic names like Seville, DeVille and Eldorado. Were entering the decade as an internal-combustion-engine brand, he said. Well exit the decade as a battery-electric brand. Its the end of the ICE age for Cadillac.Cadillac will gradually be converted into GMs EV brand; it plans to have 20 all-new electric vehicles by 2023. As Carlisle stated, by 2030 the majority of Cadillacs will be electric. As for the brands current vehicles, theyll likely receive a refresh sometime in the future before fully transitioning to EVs. The brand-new Escalade is set to be revealed in February, and will be transitioned to an EV eventually, though not before it gets Cadillacs Super Cruise hands-free driver-assist system, with a few improvements, such as automated

Blink-182 drummer sells classic Cadillac on Bring a Trailer
Travis Barker, best known as the drummer for Blink-182, has quite a penchant for classic cars mostly Cadillacs, if you couldnt tell from his tattoos of the brands logo. But now, some lucky bidder is getting out the pocketbook to own one of Barkers old customs, courtesy of Bring a Trailer. The 1970 Cadillac Eldorado owned, until yesterday, by Barker was modified by Radioactive Kustoms of Van Nuys, California, and features some subtle touches to make it stand out (paint not included; the tri-tone metal flake gold is anything but subtle). The Caddy has been lowered, the door handles and outside trim have been shaved. Whitewall tires and Wheel Vintiques hubcaps complete the look. The vehicle was also given the name Conquistador II by its builders Bob Falini, John DAgostino, Mike Garner and Tony Wood.Powering the beast is a 500-cubic-inch V8 coupled to a three-speed automatic transmission, sending driving power to the front wheels only. This isnt the first vehicle the skin-smasher has sold on Bring a Trailer either; previous cars liquidated from his collection via the site include a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado, 1964 Buick Riviera with custom hydraulics, 1965 Chevrolet El Camino, 1954 Cadillac Coupe Deville, 19741 Cadillac four-door convertible and a 1951 Chevrolet Pickup. Its worth mentioning these vehicles are some of the most tastefully modified weve ever seen a celebrity own. Im sure were all sick of folks gold-wrapping their Bugatti Veyrons, or dipping their Bentley in hot pink paint, but Barker seems to like things more classic and kustom. The Cadillac was sold with no reserve on the bidding for US$12,500, which aint bad, but is less than the last time it was put up for auction. About a year prior, Barker listed the Caddy and it did not sell after topping out at a US$16,000

SUV Comparison: 2019 Cadillac XT4 vs. 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque P300 HSE
Nick Tragianis: Dont you just hate it whenever you step out of the shopping mall, look to the parking lot, and your car is lost in a seemingly endless sea of crossovers? Well, like it or not, this new breed of people-movers are here to stay, the segment absolutely exploding in popularity over the last few years, particularly among the luxury subset.Land Rover mustve seen this coming. The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, now in its second generation, has been a consistently hot seller since its introduction in 2011. Oh, its still relatively small potatoes compared with the likes of the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA, but the Evoque has proven itself as an established contender in the small luxury crossover segment. Weve also seen countless newcomers over the years vying for a delicious slice of that market share, particularly the Cadillac XT4: This is entirely new ground for the storied Detroit automaker, and its about time it certainly took GM long enough to offer up a small, luxury crossover. But the question remains, does the XT4 have the goods to go toe to toe against the established players in the segment?Brian Harper: Well that, my young friend, would depend on your definition of goods. Sales? Absolutely. For a brand-new model, the XT4 is doing quite well, handily outselling the Evoque for the first six months of 2019, although that could be partially attributed to the Land Rover factory ramping up production and getting the junior Range Rover to market. Price? That would also be a yes. Cadillac is being very aggressive with the XT4s MSRP, not just against the Evoque, but versus much of the competition in the compact luxury segment. And the loaded XT4 Sport testers $59,365 price is significantly more affordable when compared with the equally loaded Evoque P300 HSE $71,200 sticker. How about size? Again, the Cadillac enjoys an advantage; the XT4 is a slightly larger, more passenger-friendly crossover when compared with the truly compact-sized Range Rover. Yet, when it comes to luxury not just the features and content but also the sensation, the feeling of being something special? Quantitatively and qualitatively, the Cadillac is not in the same league. Agree?NT: Youre on the mark. On paper, the XT4 has the goods. A 2.0-litre turbo-four is standard, putting out 237 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. Thats hooked up to an eight-speed automatic and, in the case of this particular tester, all-wheel drive is standard. Take note, though: The XT4 defaults to FWD and stays that way unless youve toggled the appropriate drive mode. And if you want the base, $34,400 XT4, youre stuck with FWD. In practice, though, the XT4 isnt exceptionally impressive, but it isnt egregiously offensive, either. Its simply adequate it wont leave you wanting for more power when, say, youre merging onto the highway, but overall acceleration just feels tepid. It rides well enough, too, but the XT4 is a bit firm over the roughest of pavement, expansion joints and potholes. Its a bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison to the Evoque, though, isnt it? Our particular tester was the fully loaded P300 HSE flavour: Although it technically uses the same 2.0-litre turbo-four as the base Evoque P250, you get a big bump in output (and price). The nearly $10,000 price difference is almost worth it, though the Evoque makes excellent use out of its 296 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. <img

SUV Review: 2019 Cadillac XT5
2019 Cadillac XT5 Platinum AWDJil McIntosh OVERVIEW Luxury squeezed into a midsize package PROSGood performance, comfortable interior CONSSome very wonky controls VALUE FOR MONEYI’m not feeling the price for this top-line trim WHAT TO CHANGE?The engineer who designed the shifter HOW TO SPEC IT?The $51,295 Luxury trim It feels like its been a while although in reality, its probably only been a couple of hours since Ive gone full-tilt Crazy Old Woman Yelling At Kids To Get Off Her Lawn. But now, Ive got a rant inspired by the 2019 Cadillac XT5. Im old enough to remember when a Cadillac had pretty much the same simple controls as its lesser-priced GM brethren, but they were just better quality and felt nicer in your hand. So I dont understand why a pricier car now needs more complicated controls. This XT5 requires me to awkwardly push an electronic gearshift up and sideways to put it into Reverse (several times, I thought I was about to back up but was still in Neutral), or slide my finger across a piece of glass to turn up the volume, when this smooth-driving vehicle could be even more pleasurable if GM had paid less attention to the gizmos and more to a simpler, distraction-free layout. The automaker has certainly started with a solid base, though. The XT5 rides on a platform that, with a few tweaks to its external dimensions, also underpins the new-for-2019 Chevrolet Blazer, which turned out to be among my favourite recent rides. There are enough distinctions that your friends likely wont make the connection, at least until you open the hatch, where the two share a brilliant cargo management system of a fence that slides fore or aft, or can be removed completely, to corral grocery bags or luggage so they stay where you put them. The Cadillacs powerplant is a 3.6-litre V6, making 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque, and mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The more budget-minded can opt for a base front-wheel-drive model, at $41,795. Most will go for all-wheel and there are four trim levels for that, starting at $44,795 and rising rapidly to my top-line tester, the $69,195 Platinum. Even then, there are items available to add, and mine was equipped to a rather jaw-dropping $73,891 before freight and taxes. The all-wheel-drive models can be run in front-wheel alone for fuel savings. When activated, the AWD uses a twin-clutch system that sends power to the rear wheels and then, as needed, distributes it to the right or left wheels to optimize traction. To further keep the XT5 sipping at its tank, the engine has Active Fuel Management, which shuts off two of the cylinders when full power isnt required. In addition, theres an auto-stop system that completely shuts the engine off at idle, such as when youre sitting at a light. All other functions continue to operate, of course. Im not always a fan of these automatic start-stop systems, and while most automakers provide some way to temporarily disable them, the XT5 doesnt allow for it. My cantankerous side yelled at GM to at least give me the option, but then my frugal side noted in my week with the XT5, I came in under the official combined fuel economy rating of 11.2 L/100 kilometres.German sport-utes in this segment are usually tuned for sportier driving and with a firmer ride. Instead, the XT5 is closer to the luxury-forward offerings from Lexus or Infiniti: The XT5 handles itself well around curves, but its primarily about cruising comfort. The cabin has the clich bank-vault silence, and the suspension glides smoothly over bumps. The seats stayed comfortable on a three-hour drive, and theres lots of legroom for the rear chairs, which slide and recline. The exterior styling isnt spectacular, but it comes alive at night with beautiful lighting, including cool little light strips on the door handles. The interior is handsome, especially if you opt for a single colour, as my grey-clad cabin was, rather than the available three-tone scheme that looks too busy. It seems as though once the engineers who designed the shift lever and volume swipe went for lunch, smarter employees jumped in and handled most of the other controls. There are switches for the climate functions, and the infotainment system is relatively intuitive. I was really surprised to see that the height and brightness controls for the head-up display are actual toggles far better than most manufacturers hiding them within layers of computer screens.Theres also a camera rear-view mirror, which broadcasts a digital view instead of a reflection. Its high-definition and covers a wide area, but it does take a while to get used to it, and I found it tough to quickly focus on it. If its not to your liking, it can be switched to operate as a regular mirror.Perceived value is an important consideration. Despite the top-line XT5 Platinums long list of features, it still has a mainstream ambiance to it and I never felt like I was

Cadillac reveals its 2020 CT4 sedan on Instagram
Underscoring its assertion a brand neednt live on SUVs alone, Cadillac today introduced the new 2020 CT4 sedan. This means there will be a trio of sedans in the companys showroom, with this machine being the smallest of the three.Built on rear-drive architecture, the way nature and Alfred Sloan intended, the Cadillac CT4 will offer a selection of turbocharged engines.A 2.0-litre turbo is the standard engine, cranking out 237 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. It is mated to an eight-speed automatic.Further up the options sheet is a 2.7-litre turbo, whose estimated power is a sprightly 309 ponies and 348 lb.-ft. of twist in the Premium Luxury model. Alert readers will note this engine is related to the 325-horsepower engine found in the CT4-V. Ten cogs inhabit the automatic lashed to this mill. The CT4s profile is decidedly rear-wheel-drive, with a good dash-to-axle ratio creating a long proboscis. We developed CT4 to appeal to youthful buyers in the luxury market who may be new to the Cadillac brand, said Andrew Smith, executive director of global Cadillac design.Three trims, in addition to the V, will be offered at launch: Luxury, Premium Luxury and Sport. The latter will have darker accents and performance-inspired details like unique fascias while the others are going to ladle on the chrome in varying amounts.Sport and V-Series models will have Brembo-branded front brakes, while rear-drive Vs will have GMs trick Magnetic Ride Control. All-wheel-drive will be available in Canada on all models. Available Continental self-sealing tires are said to be a segment-first, and the company says Super Cruise is going to be available in the 2020 calendar year.CT4s interior will look familiar to anyone whos been inside a Cadillac in the last year, with a tablet-style 8-inch infotainment system that is appended by twin physical knobs (thank you, Cadillac) and two rows of buttons for ventilation and other controls. These PR photos show a set of analog gauges bookending a TFT screen as in the XT5 and XT6. It would be nice for Cadillac to offer something like Audis Virtual Cockpit, something which may happen with the arrival of Super Cruise. The 2020 CT4 will be available for ordering later this

First Drive: 2020 Cadillac XT6
Washington, D.C. The 2020 Cadillac XT6 is a new three-row, all-wheel-drive crossover that sits neatly between the face-lifted XT5 and overblown Escalade. It is large without feeling bloated and it has the amenities expected of a luxury crossover. There are two distinctly different models the Premium Luxury keys on the softer side of life; the Sport adds an entertaining extension to the drive. The key differences between the Premium Luxury and Sport is that the latter earns quicker steering, a torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system and adaptive damping. It is also offered with larger P265/45R21 tires. Other changes are found in the grille treatment and the interior trim. The Premium Luxury uses exotic wood trim; the Sport gets carbon-fibre inserts. Both models are powered by a 3.6-litre V6 that makes 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. It has plenty of pop off the line and it works with a slick nine-speed automatic transmission. The two work very well together, providing solid performance over the entire operating range. At the top end, the transmission gearing improves fuel economy, as does the cylinder deactivation system when loads are low the engine shuts down two of the six cylinders. In a strange twist, the engines output is referenced in the badging. The 400 badge on the liftgate indicates the amount of torque on tap or thats the intent. Rather than round up the pound-feet and use that number, the twisting force is converted to Newton-metres and then modified. This means the 271 lb.-ft., which converts to 367 Nm of torque, becomes the 400 designation after its been doctored. It is a strange naming strategy to say the least. While the Premium Luxurys all-wheel-drive system does add stability to the drive, it does not compare with the Sport Control system used in the Sport model. The latter has two clutches in the rear axle module. Heading into a corner, the system directs the drive to the outside rear wheel, which helps to power the XT6 through the corner with more authority it can send up to 100 percent of the power to the outside rear wheel if thats whats needed. The upshot is the XT6 Sport turns into a corner in a quicker manner and it does so with less understeer and less steering input when compared to the Premium Luxury. On the drive, the Sport impressed with its overall driving dynamics.Other differences in the personalities show up when the going gets quick. The Premium Luxurys front struts and multi-link suspension are tuned to maximize ride comfort. This introduces more body roll and the steering is softer in any mode except Sport the driver can choose between Tour, AWD, Sport and Off-road. Conversely, the Sports adaptive damping delivers a comfortable ride when in AWD mode and it cuts body roll noticeably when in Sport mode. Interestingly, Tour mode adopts a front-drive format to save fuel. Forget it and the off-road mode and stick with AWD or Sport. The XT6 is notable for the quality of the interior execution. Both trims feature nice materials and all the surfaces are butted together neatly. The latest Cadillac User Experience (CUE) with its eight-inch touchscreen now has a new central controller with a jog function. It makes it much easier to navigate between functions. The nit to pick is the instrumentation. While it is reconfigurable, it lacks the visual zing of the Audi Q7s Virtual Cockpit it is going to be one of the XT6s key competitors. If you want more luxury, the Platinum package is available on both models. Theres semi-aniline leather on all seats, the dash panel and doors are wrapped in leather and theres a smart microsuede-like headliner. On the Premium Luxury, it also adds the aforementioned adaptive damping. The XT6 comes with 11 standard safety systems, including blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist, auto high beams and low-speed forward collision prevention with auto braking. It requires the Driver Assistance package to get adaptive cruise control and enhanced forward collision prevention with full auto emergency braking. The other safety system worth considering is the optional three-LED headlight system. There is one low-beam unit and two high-beam units, each of which has 16 individually controlled LEDs. It brings superior illumination. A very cool extension is the Surround View Recorder. It acts like a 360-degree dash cam. It runs a five-minute loop whenever the XT6 is in motion, however, when triggered by an incident it stores the video on an SD card. It is novel and means no more ugly dash cams stuck to the windshield.Unlike many in the segment, the second two rows of seats are usable. Sliding the middle row forward opens up some legroom for the third row riders. When the third row is empty and the middle row is fully rearward there is ample room for a pair of six-foot riders head-, leg- and elbowroom are all generous. There are both six- and seven-seat

Fresher look, more amenities and new naming strategy usher in 2020 Cadillac XT5
The mid-cycle refresh of the 2020 Cadillac XT5 brings it in line with the smaller XT4 and new XT6 the latter well be getting full details on July 29. Yes, when the XT5 lands this September it will be offered in Luxury, Premium Luxury and Sport models. The last two can be optioned up to the Platinum trim, which includes upgraded leather and advanced safety aids like adaptive cruise control and full-speed auto emergency braking. In all cases, the XT5 has sharper exterior styling with a new mesh-like grille, LED headlights and daytime running lights along with the equipment preferred by luxury crossover buyers: heated leather seats; the next-gen Cadillac User Experience (CUE) system with a large touchscreen; and a 360-degree camera view. The latest CUE system has a new controller that now includes a jog function, which makes it easier to navigate from one facet to another. On the safety front, the XT5s features list includes lane-departure warning with keep-assist; low-speed forward collision avoidance; and auto high-beams.The XT5 Luxury arrives with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 237 horsepower and 258 foot-pounds of torque. It drives the front wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. The Premium Luxury uses the same engine and transmission, but it drives all four wheels through the companys single-clutch AWD system. This model can also be optioned up to the engine featured in the Sport model a brawny 3.6-litre V6 that makes 310 hp and 271 foot-pounds of torque. The Sport sits out on its own with its powerful engine and nine-speed automatic driving all four wheels through a slick twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system. The plus here is that the two clutches in the rear axle module give it torque vectoring some will argue that it is not real-time, but it is way better than any brake-based system. The clutches in the rear differential send more power to the outside rear wheel in a corner if required the system is capable of sending 100 per cent of the drive to the outside wheel. This action sharpens the turn-in response, reduces understeer and the amount of steering wheel input required. The Sport model also ups the ante with 20-inch wheels, tauter suspension, adaptive damping and a faster steering ratio. Finally, the refreshed XT5 uses Cadillacs new naming strategy. It is loosely based on the torque output of the engine under the hood of the vehicle. There will be a number of designations including the 400 found on the XT5 Sport. The reason for the switch is to accommodate the electric era when it finally comes of age torque will become the dominant number and replace horsepowers importance in the process. In this case, the 400 badge tells the onlooker the engine has roughly 400 Newton-metres of torque on tap. Yes, a new naming system using a unit of measure thats foreign to North America. Regardless, in simple terms, the XT5 Sports V6 pushes 271 pound-feet of torque, or about 367-Nm of torque. Round that number up and you have the 400 designation. If youre confused, you are not alone.Full Canadian specifications and final pricing will be announced closer to the September launch

Cadillac may build an Escalade EV with almost 650 km of range
2018 Cadillac EscaladeHandout / Cadillac Cadillacs next-generation Escalade could offer electric power for the first time, and, somehow, the massive and heavy SUV might even be able to net 400 miles (643 km) of battery range.According to anonymous inside sources speaking to the Cadillac Society, the fifth-generation Cadillac Escalade will offer more than just the standard 6.2-litre V8 gasoline powertrainthere will also be a high-performance version that uses Cadillacs 4.2-litre twin-turbo Blackwing motor. Both will allegedly use a 10-speed automatic transmission, and be available in either two- or four-wheel-drive. But rumours are for buyers wanting to go green, were looking at a plug-in hybrid a la the CT6 PHEV; as well as a fully electric model with a surprising amount of range. It isnt that surprising, however, because when you have a truck thats already heavy and huge, you dont have to worry about adding a bunch of battery weightthe chassis can already handle it. The next-generation Escalade will debut in 2021, but the electric option wont arrive right when the vehicle debuts. It will likely come later in the life cycle of the truck, the sources say. When it does debut, however, it will give the Tesla Model X a run for its money, as currently the top model of that vehicle only gets 325 miles to the charge. Of course, that number might be upgraded by the time the Escalade EV is released. The luxury-minded Escalade will also see NVH (noise/vibration/harness) levels drop thanks to the electric powertrain. And if you flick on the latest version of Cadillac Super Cruise while youre behind the wheel, it might be hard to shake the feeling youre sitting in your living room at
