Dodge debuts limited-production 717-horsepower Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition on new 2020 Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody If youve held off buying a Dodge Charger Hellcat because it only has 707 horsepower, get your wallet ready. Theres now a Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition available on the new 2020 Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody that boosts its 6.2-L Hemi V8 engine to 717 horses. The new model, introduced during the annual Woodward Dream Cruise near Detroit, makes 717 horsepower, along with 650 lb.-ft. of torque. The trick is an increase in the shift points to 6,100 rpm in automatic mode, which yields the 10-horsepower boost exclusive to the model. As a tribute to the 1969 Charger Daytona, its limited to 501 units as the original was, and features unique Daytona decals with a matching spoiler.Four colours will be available B5 Blue, Pitch Black, Triple Nickel, and White Knuckle while other features include unique 20-inch Warp Speed wheels with Pirelli all-season or optional three-season performance tires, Brembo brakes, carbon fibre interior accents, blue-stitched seats, a suede flat-bottom steering wheel, and a plaque indicating the production number. Handout / Dodge Like all Chargers, the Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition will be built in Brampton, Ontario. It pays tribute to the Dodge Charger Dayton introduced fifty years ago, which included a large rear wing and nose for NASCAR, and which was the first car to break 200 mph (320 km/h). Only 501 were built because that was the minimum needed to qualify for the race circuit.Dodge claims that the 707-horsepower Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody is the most powerful and fastest mass-produced sedan in the world. The widebody styling adds 8.8 centimetres to the car, along with wider wheels and tires.Pricing hasnt been announced, but Canadian enthusiasts will be able to order theirs this fall, with delivery in early

Updated Rezvani Tank now packs 1,000 horsepower
Looking for all the world like an extra out of Demolition Man, the Rezvani Tank is a brute of a machine designed for either quashing a dissident uprising or tooling around Beverly Hills. While it is surely capable of the former, one look at the promotional videos on the brands homepage assures us the Tank will be used for the latter.Rezvani is a company based out of Orange County in California, so that revelation should not be a surprise.Previously available with a Pentastar V6 or SRTs 6.4-litre mill, reports have surfaced the updated Rezvani will offer yet another engine one which cranks out 1,000 horsepower. Itll be called the Tank X, and it can be yours for a mere $349,000.While the press bumf loudly touts the 1,000-hp figure, this isnt the Hellephant engine Mopar introduced at SEMA last year. The company specifies this mill is a 6.2-litre Supercharged V8 Demon. Those with long memories an elephant never forgets, right? will recall the enormous 426-cubic-inch Mopar monster displaces an even 7.0 litres. A six-speed automatic is the Tank Xs only option.A quick perusal of Rezvanis build-and-price tool reveals the $349,000 sticker price to simply be a starting point for financial hilarity. Adding a Dana 60 rear end costs $8,500 while automatic side steps are another $2,500. Thermal night vision, perfect for tracking down pesky infidels, adds $6,500 to the invoice. After learning Rezvani charges an eye-popping $12,500 for a six-inch lift kit, your author decided he is definitely in the wrong business. For fun, we went through the configurator and checked every box, including the ones for a $6,500 starry night headliner and $7,500 auxiliary gas tank. Total price? $429,585.Checking in at 84 inches wide and 190 inches long, the Rezvani Tank X puts down a footprint roughly that of a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, albeit one that is ten inches wider than stock. Its about ten inches taller than a Wrangler as well, so watch that low bridge. Truth be told, the new Wrangler JL does form the basis of this beast, explaining the design changes to this 2020 model compared to last years tank, which used the old JK Wrangler as its starting point.By the way, this thing is packed with bulletproof armouring and EMP protection, meaning youll still be able to drive to your secret lair after the attack. Street-racing Dodge Vipers in B.C. show off more horsepower than skill
In this week’s installment of “Just Because You Can Afford the Car, Doesn’t Mean You Can Drive It,” we have an offering from Surrey, B.C. RCMP there will be using video posted to Twitter to track down what happened when two Dodge Vipers went head-to-head – almost literally – in a drag start off a light gone wrong. The video, posted Monday evening, reveals two freaked-out people in the car with the camera. The red Viper, to the right, takes a left turn into the black Viper almost directly off the light. Maybe one driver thought he was at a drag strip, the other at NASCAR? Either way, all that throttle was under a very inexperienced foot.Warning: The video features foul language.Watch the clip: you can hear the unmistakable sound of two high-powered cars acknowledging their intent as the light turns green. B.C., like many jurisdictions, is introducing more speed cameras and harsher penalties, and much of it is because of drivers like these. These two clowns were on Highway 10, but as you can see, this route is in Surrey at an intersection and is much more residential than freeway. The fact they’re doing this at 7 pm makes it lethal to more than just the idiots behind the wheels of the two cars. While police aren’t saying at this point if the vehicles were racing or not (they didn’t get far enough off the light before the red Viper handed in his race card) they are saying they will be analyzing the footage taken from a car behind the crash. Just another reminder everything you do is no doubt being recorded, and will be used against you.Take it to the track,

The 2020 Shelby Mustang GT500 will have 760 horsepower
2020 Ford Mustang GT500Ford The 2020 Shelby Mustang GT500 was revealed five months ago with the promise of extreme aerodynamics; a new dual-clutch gearbox; and an engine that would deliver more than 700 horsepower. So, sure, Ford warned usbut we didnt expect the final production engine to have almost 800 ponies.Yes, the new GT500 will make a ton of horsepower. Some 760 to be exact, and 625 lb.-ft. of torque to go along with it, which is leaps and bounds over almost everything else in the field. The top Chevrolet Camaro, Corvette and Dodge Challenger Hellcat all fall behind the new Shelby, save for the Hellcat Redeye. Even some exotics cant catch up, like the Porsche 911 GT2RS, and the Ferrari F8 Tributo. The all-new 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 will produce 760 horsepower and 625 lb.-ft. of torque, making it the most powerful street-legal Ford ever – with the most power- and torque-dense supercharged production V8 engine in the world. Ford Of course, it isnt likely the GT500 will be able to stack up to the likes of the Ferrari and the Porsche, but with a dual-clutch transmission that can shift in less than 100 milliseconds and aero that can provide almost 550 pounds of downforce, Ford looks like its gunning for the big boys once again.Ford uses the 5.2-litre V8 from the GT350 as a starting point (but not the flat-plane-crank R version) and adds a supercharger to give it the extra oomph. The extra power should help the GT500 run a sub-11-second quarter-mile timeat least, thats what Ford says. The zero-to-100-km/h time is still not being revealed, but were sure it isnt too high.Pricing has still not been released, but if we know Ford plans to overdeliver on the horsepower, perhaps itll also give the 2020 Shelby GT500 a nice

New Mercedes-AMG four-cylinder engine makes over 100 horsepower per cylinder
Mercedes-AMG Produktion M139 2019Mercedes-AMG Mercedes-AMG have just released the most powerful four-cylinder engine to ever go into a road car — a wild, 416-horsepower 2.0-litre turbocharged engine set to be featured in the ’45’ series of vehicles. The outgoing engine was no slouch to begin with, making a healthy 376 horsepower. This means the company has managed to squeeze out an extra 61 horsepower out of the same displacement. Bravo, Mercedes. Along with the 416 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque in the S’ trims, there will also be a detuned version set for the standard 45s, making 382 horsepower and 354lb.-ft. That torque also comes in further along in the powerband, meaning you get a much steadier power delivery. To achieve all this, Mercedes-AMG have done some properly nerdy stuff, fitting the engine with electric wastegates, piezo-injectors, and relocating the turbo, etc. The engines will also be built more quickly thanks to Mercedes one man (or woman), one engine mantra, which includes tools that have already been computer-controlled to properly torque the bolts. According to plant manager Alexander Kurz, this cuts production time by 20 to 25 per cent, allowing 140 engines per day to be built. The M139 engine will be available in the upcoming A, CLA, and GLA 45

Caddy says new V-Series’ horsepower is lower because drivers were ‘intimidated’
The 2020 Cadillac CT5-VGraeme Fletcher / Driving.ca As we recently covered, the new 2020 CT4-V and CT5-V have arrived with upgrades across the board, except for in the power department. That’s down, but why? According to statements made by GM president Mark Reuss and reported by Automotive News, people were scared of the gobs of horsepower in the last V-Series, so the company is pulling back a bit for this new generation to make them more appealing. There was, frankly, some people who were intimidated by the cars, Reuss said following the unveiling of the cars last week. When we did a V-Series, they were hammers. There’s some intimidation there. Those “hammers” included the CTS-V, which claimed 640 horsepower from its supercharged V8 and topped out at over 320 km/h; and the ATS-V, whose twin-turbo V6 made 464 horsepower and could push the car to 304 km/h. In contrast, the new V-Series CT4-V makes 320 horsepower from its turbocharged four-cylinder, while the CT5-V gets 355 from its turbo-six. So, yeah, they’re less intimidating now, perhaps hinting at a detuned CT6-V on the way, too (its 550 horsepower will no doubt be too scary for drivers, as well). Meanwhile, Cadillac has been testing a pair of track-ready V-Series prototypes that Reuss says “represent the next step in Cadillac’s V-Series performance legacy.” It’s expected the track-approved CT4-V will house a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 with 400-plus horsepower, and the matching CT5-V either a twin-turbo 4.2-litre V8 with 500-plus horsepower or the same 640-horsepower supercharged V8 that currently powers the CTS-V. Pricing for the now-less-intimidating V-Series cars hasn’t been announced, but Caddy says they’ll be the most accessible to date.

Spy shots suggest 800-plus horsepower Mercedes-AMG hybrid in the works
The GT line at Mercedes-AMG has been expanding faster than a speeding amoeboid. With several progressively hotter iterations of the two-door model debuting, plus an array of four-door coupes on the go, the brand has something to suit just about every well-heeled gearhead. The marque may soon have something to placate gearheads who also have a silent eye on Johnny Polar Bear. According to spy photogs working for Autocar across the pond, Merc-AMG is cooking up a gasoline-electric hybrid version of the car that could potentially crank out more than 800 horses. Back in 2017, the company showed off a GT Concept powered by an AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine and a high-performance electric motor, the works of which was rated at 805 horsepower. With the 4MATIC system clawing the macadam at all four corners, 100 km/h should be yours in less than three seconds. According to the U.K. mag, the system will also allow for an all-electric range of 50 kilometres, which should give it an economy boost compared to other cars in the GT line. As for its name, Daimler trademarked a trio of ‘73’ names in Canada, giving us a possible glimpse of the alphanumerics that will appear on the rump of this GT. The last time Merc used those two digits was twenty years ago, when a 7.3-liter V12 resided under the hood of its SL flagship. Mercedes-AMG will have company in the uber sedan-coupe segment, particularly from Porsche. The Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is good for a combined output of 680 horsepower from its electric motor and twin-turbo V8. With the Panamera priced well north of $200,000 in this country, it would be a safe bet the Mercedes-AMG entry would cost that much or

Mini gives the refreshed JCW Clubman and Countryman 300 horsepower
Earlier this year we hyped the news of the 300-horsepower John Cooper Works GP, the most powerful production Mini to date, and now it’s our duty – and pleasure, really – to report that both the JCW Clubman and Countryman models will get a similar boost in power and performance during their upcoming refreshes. Mini announced mid-May the hot hatches will come fitted with 2.0-litre inline-fours taken from the Countryman and Clubman S models and modified to produce 301 horsepower (up from 189) and 331 lb.-ft of torque. To achieve this, JCW tweaked the crankshaft and compression ratio, and upgraded bearings, pistons, turbocharger and connecting rods. That’s allegedly enough to get the JCW Clubman from zero to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, and the Countryman over the line in 5.1 seconds. JCW may have been benevolent with the power, but it did withhold a little when it came to the transmission. Both models will get an eight-speed auto (with paddle shifters, mind you) as standard for now, but optimists will have to reserve hope for later convertible or hardtop versions to include manual transmissions. All-wheel-drive with locking front differential is also standard, keeping the Mini in front-wheel-drive configuration until a loss of traction is detected. To increase rigidity and remove weight, the vehicles’ chassis and axles were adjusted, with adaptive dampers made optional on both models. And to distinguish them as members of the JCW crew, the pair get a red bar across the front grille, badges up front and on the rear, red brake calipers and the option for a red roof and matching mirror caps. Nineteen-inch wheels are also available as an optional upgrade from the 18-inch wheels that come standard. The new JCW Clubman and Countryman will go on sale this summer. Prices have yet to be announced.

Hyundai Sonata N Line confirmed with at least 275 horsepower
2020 Hyundai SonataAndrew McCredie / Driving Hyundai wants you to know that it hasn’t abandoned the sedan. The automaker revealed the 2020 Sonata at the New York Auto Show, and the eighth-generation midsize sedan might be its most attractive yet. Our own David Booth goes as far as to say “it’s set to become one of the best-looking midsize sedans on the road.” Now, Hyundai has confirmed that an N Line-spec Sonata is also on the way, along with a hybrid model. Jim Trainor, director of communications at Hyundai’s U.S. division, revealed in a conversation with Autoblog that the Sonata N Line will come with at least 275 horsepower, and probably a lot more. Pressed for more details, Trainor only reiterated that there was “more” on the way. Whether that means upgraded suspension, brakes or other bits is unclear, but it’s sure to include some aesthetic adjustments as well. The 2020 Sonata that will arrive in Canada this fall, meanwhile, is powered by either a 178-horsepower, 1.6-litre turbo-four, or a normally aspirated 2.5L inline-four with 191 horsepower. The source of the promised 275+ horsepower in the Sonata N Line remains unconfirmed, but it’s worth noting in Canada, the Hyundai Veloster N’s four-cylinder turbo makes exactly that — 275 horsepower. Coincidence? We hope not.
