Porsches Macan GTS is back for 2020 after a three-year hiatus, and now it has more power, more tech and a slightly higher price.Powering the GTS is a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 making 375 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. With a PDK transmission and the Sport Chrono package, the small crossover can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds, some 0.3 seconds faster than the previous Macan GTS.Top speed is now a rule-breaking 261 km/h.The standard GTS comes with Porsche Air Suspension, which includes Active Suspension Management tech, and the vehicle has been lowered by 25 millimetres for better handling.The exterior has changed slightly, and features a revised fascia, new front and rear trim with side skirts and LED headlights and taillights. Cast-iron brakes with painted red calipers are standard, but carbon-compsite brakes are an available option. A set of 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheels round out the exterior changes.Inside the Macan, the sporty theme is continued with a large instrument panel and infotainment screen. Alcantara adorns the centre panels of the eight-way adjustable sports seats, the centre console armrests and the door panels, and aluminum trim is found everywhere else. A GTS interior option is available that adds Carmine Red or Chalk stitching, as well as a Bose sound system and wireless charging.All this sportiness will cost a little bit more money than the previous model at $77,100 in Canada, its $4,000 more than it was in 2017. A couple of days after police in Marseilles, southern France pulled over a microcar with a pony riding shotgun, authorities near Lyon had to deal with another kind of horsecrap a hot-rodder who thought he could evade the law via raw horsepower, but who also forgot to top off his gas tank.The citys Gendarmes de la Drôme explained via Facebook that it was prepared to hand out a red card to the driver of a Mercedes-AMG C63 in the late evening November 30 after clocking him doing 206 km/h in an already generous 130-km/h zone.“(The Valence motorway’s squad) caught up with said vehicle five kilometers (from the Pont de l’Isère on the A7) in a 90 km/h-limit zone where the vehicle was now clocked driving at 240 km/h. The Mercedes’ driver then used all the performance of his automobile to outrun patrolmen, but the latter did not give up,” reads the post, translated here into English.“The car is spotted 60 kilometers further, still traveling at crazy speeds. McLaren GT McLaren bosses say an SUV is (still) out of the question, but note there will be room in the lineup for new technologies, like hybrid hypercars capable of zero-to-96-km/h times under two-and-a-half seconds.When Car and Driver recently prodded him on the prospect of building an SUV, McLaren Automotive CEO Mike Flewitt says trucks are still a non-starter for the British brand.Why would we? he says. We dont have to.Wed never get a return on it, Flewitt says. The cost of designing a brand-new platform would cost well over $1 billion, and besides that, were all getting sick of thoroughbred supercar manufacturers building SUVs just to make a profit.Instead of trying to fit more people in the back of its vehicles, McLaren is trying to fit more power, and thats why there will definitely be another hybrid model, as well as a pure EV, although it is less keen on those. Flewitt says current batteries are too heavy, too expensive and not dense enough to meet the brands standards.As for the hybrid model, its already in the works. Here at Driving, we dont usually cover mid-model refreshes you know, those largely cosmetic functionally-unchanged updates automakers try to pass off as all-new models.But were making an exception for Jaguars new 2021 F-Type because a) the already-sexy sports coupe has been rendered even more sensuous; and b) it was introduced with a tremendously cool Hot Wheels track that ran through Jaguars entire Gaydon design facility.Indeed, Jag says the entire track stretches 232 metres 761 feet from its top-of-stairs, soapbox-style launch to its outdoor, running-into-the-real-F-Type finale. And, according to our count, there are no less than 25 of Hot Wheels famous loop-the-loops and three Jaguar calls them gravity-defying jumps that I am sure, what with my experience some 50 years ago, took multiple takes.In between, the camouflaged it is a super-secret prototype after all! miniature raced past CAD/CAM prototyping computers, a pretty nifty clay model of the Jag two-seater, through the headrest of the revised Windsor leather front seats and through the prototyping final assembly area. In between, Mattel estimates the tiny F-Type reached scaled speeds of 480 kilometres an hour!According to Jaguar, Mattel used the companys own CAD drawings to craft the ultra-precise 3D-printed model, recreating, says the company, every beautiful detail of the new F-Type, including its striking new clamshell bonnet, distinctive super-slim Pixel LED headlights and more sculpted front and rear bumpers. The Hot Wheels team also faithfully recreated the new Velocity Blue colour which Jaguar is making a big noise about from the SVO Premium Palette, and even hand-painted the F-Type badge on the back before the model was camouflaged ahead of its own reveal in the film.As for the car itself, the 2021 Jaguar F-Types powertrains turbocharged 2.0-litre four, 3.0L supercharged V6 and supercharged 5.0L V8 remain largely unchanged, although the all-wheel-drive Rs honking V8 gets a boost from 550 hp to 575, good enough, says Jaguar, to scoot to 100 kilometres an hour in just 3.7 seconds.Coping with that increased power is the Rs uprated chassis that includes stiffer springs and anti-roll bars, beefier rear knuckles and ball joints and revised adjustable shock damping.As for styling, a new clamshell bonnet is bordered by super-slim Pixel LED headlights and a subtly enlarged grille. Theres also something Jaguar calls Liquid Metal surfacing, but if youve got any idea what that is, let me know.The hind end likewise gets a design, this time with what Jaguars styling boffins call an unmistakeable chicane signature to its LED lights. Again, I will plead artistic cretinism, but the automaker says theyre inspired by the Jaguar I-PACE all-electric Performance SUV, with subtle monogram pattern detailing and a fine pinstripe beneath.Inside, theres the aforementioned Windsor leather and something called satin finish Noble Chrome. Bugatti has just smashed the record for the fastest production car by a country mile, pulling off an incredible 304.77-mph (490-km/h) top speed run at Volkswagens Ehra-Lessien test track August 2, reports Top Gear.To complete this incredible feat, the production Chiron was modified with a 25-cm-longer tail section, highlighted by a pair of over-under shotgun-style exhaust tips designed to throw emissions from the tailpipe as far from the car as possible to reduce turbulence.Bugattis head of exterior design, Frank Heyl, said, for obvious reasons, the company had to get everything right with this car, from the aesthetics to the engine to the aerodynamics.While the aesthetics may be the least important factor when it comes to breaking speed records, the car looks fabulous, with a split rear window and an orange-and-black colour scheme lifted, we think, from an authentic 1930s Bugatti Type 57.The luxurious interior of this way-fast Chiron has been swapped out for a much more purposeful arrangement, with only the drivers seat left intact; everything else has been replaced with computers and a roll cage.The 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 engine has been slightly tuned up to 1,600 horsepower, which is why Bugatti gave the car the nickname Thor.The real hero here is Michelin, which was finally able to make a tire that could withstand the high speeds and incredible down force.We expect other supercar makers will, eventually, catch up with Bugatti, but that doesnt really matter anymore, because the French brand is retiring from setting speed records; in a release, CEO Stephan Winkelmann said he wants to focus on other automotive milestones instead.Our goal was to be the first manufacturer ever to reach the magic 300-mile-per-hour mark, Winkelmann was quoted. A 24-year-old man decided 147 km/h was a better speed to enter the zone. He had his licence suspended for seven days, and his newer Cadillac was impounded. Toronto and the GTA continue to be experiencing an increase in pedestrian and cyclist fatalities, despite efforts by local governments to introduce safety measures to counter them. They’re not working, and stories like this one are indicative of why: motorists are not buying into their responsibility on the issue. If ever-increasing fines aren’t stopping it, what will?
