The headlights also remained the same, small slits that flank the fascia.Even the inside was leaked, showing the large infotainment screen placed in the middle of the dash, as well as the interesting-looking two-spoke steering wheel. Two knobs are located on the centre console, one for the infotainment and the other for the transmission.The underhood area was not shown, but were assuming the SUV will sport a turbocharged V6 engine, with a four-cylinder hybrid standard. A plug-in hybrid option might also be coming in the future. The next-gen 2020 Volkswagen Golf totally leaked ahead of its debut

The 2020 Volkswagen Golf Mk. 8 was leaked late October ahead of its debut. But not just like a low-res teaser thumbnail. Man, we can see everything.The leak comes courtesy of German newspaper Augsburger Allgemeine, which apparently was so excited about the new car of the people it posted it a whole day before it was supposed to be released.At any rate, were glad theres a new Golf, and this new, eighth generation is a real looker. Still instantly recognizable as the classic hatch, the Mk. 8 has slimmer headlights and a revised, smaller grille. The VW logo is as prominent as ever, and cuts into the hood like on a classic Golf.The interior has also been revised, with a new flat-bottom steering wheel and a digital gauge cluster. A free-standing infotainment screen sits atop the stepped dash with illuminated accents. Full specs are still to be revealed, but reportedly the vehicle will come with a wide range of engines, at least in Europe, including a 1.0-litre three-cylinder; 1.5- and 2.0-liter four-cylinders are also coming. A 1.5-litre Compressed Natural Gas unit and an assortment of 2.0-litre diesel models may also be on the table.Obviously, we can expect a GTI version of this new Golf as well, due out next year. Hybrid-only Honda Jazz revealed in leaked image ahead of Tokyo reveal

An image of the next-generation Honda Jazz has been revealed in Japanese media, ahead of its reveal at the Tokyo Motor Show. Alongside an earlier teaser image, the Japanese car maker said the new Jazz will “raise the bar in terms of comfort and driver enjoyment”.  Honda has previously confirmed that the model will be launched in Europe with hybrid technology as its sole powertrain. Autocar first reported the move in March, and in September this year, Honda affirmed that its bestselling model in the UK would only be offered with petrol-electric hybrid engines. It will use the same dual-motor hybrid system already seen in the brand’s CR-V hybrid when it launches next year. Honda said the powertrain “provides an exceptional blend of strong and effortless driving performance and impressive fuel economy”. The Jazz will be the first in the brand ‘s line-up to only offer a hybrid powertrain, with other models soon to follow suit. Honda announced earlier this year that all of its combustion-engined models in Europe will be offered with hybrid powertrains by 2025. Honda said at the time: “Ahead of its 2025 electrification goal, Honda will expand the application of its i-MMD dual-motor hybrid system, with the introduction into smaller segment cars an important first step.” Currently, the only model it offers as a hybrid is the CR-V, which indirectly replaced a diesel variant of the compact SUV. Petrol variants are also sold. Honda UK has seen great success with the CR-V Hybrid, which accounts for 55% of the model’s sales. Following the launch of the hybrid Jazz in 2020, the next electrified model will be the Civic in 2021. The CR-V Hybrid pairs two electric motors with a 2.0-litre petrol engine and a CVT transmission. However, given its smaller dimensions, the Jazz supermini will use either a 1.0-litre of 1.5-litre petrol engine and have less power. Honda UK sales boss Phil Webb said the maker will launch a campaign to help educate on the hybrid Jazz given the older age of many of its loyal customers. He predicts a dip in sales when it first arrives on roads next summer, but anticipates it will bounce back to between 18,000 and 20,000 units annually in the UK. The new Jazz must remain familiar enough to appeal to those loyal owners, while also bringing in new people to Honda’s entry-level model. BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe leaked ahead of tonight’s reveal

BMW’s new 2 Series Gran Coupé is due to be revealed later tonight, but official images have been leaked online to spoil the show.  The new shots show the four-door Mercedes-Benz CLA rival’s exterior styling in full, with a distinct visual difference compared to the larger 3 Series and new 1 Series.    While the front-end is recognisable from the 2 Series’ hatchback sibling, the rear-end shape appears to be inspired by the firm’s latest coupe SUV, the BMW X4, with similar tail-lights and tailgate shape. The need to accommodate two conventional front-hinged rear doors and sufficient rear seat leg room is said to be behind the decision to give the new car a wheelbase that’s halfway between the 2690mm span of the 2 Series Coupé and the 2810mm of the 3 Series saloon. Inside, the 2 Series Gran Coupé will sport a new interior layout that’s also set to be adopted by the successors to today’s 2 Series Coupé and 2 Series Convertible, which are due in 2020. The turbocharged three-cylinder and four-cylinder engines of the 2 Series Gran Coupé will mirror those of the existing line-up. On the petrol side of the range, expect a 134bhp 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine in the 218i, 181bhp and 242bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder units in the 220i and 225i, with a more potent version in the M235i. Among the diesels will be 148bhp, 187bhp and 221bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines in the 218d, 220d and 225d respectively. Like its two-door siblings, the 2 Series Gran Coupé will offer a choice of a standard six-speed manual or optional eight-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox, with xDrive four-wheel drive available as an option. However, the latter will be offered in combination with only a limited range of engines. The highlight of the new line-up, though, will be the M2 Gran Coupé. This model will use the same 365bhp turbocharged 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine as its highly lauded two-door sibling. It will be offered with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Although it’s still early days, that engine – designated S55B30 – is expected to provide the M2 Gran Coupé with similar performance to the M2, which has an official 0-62mph time of 4.4sec in manual form and an electronically limited top speed of 155mph. The 2 Series Gran Coupé will be produced alongside the 2 Series Coupé and 2 Series Convertible at BMW’s plant in Leipzig, Germany. A plug-in hybrid model is also mooted. This is expected to use BMW’s turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor mounted within the forward section of a standard eight-speed automatic gearbox. Land Rover Defender: details of new Defender family leaked

Vital statistics of Jaguar Land Rover’s all-new Defender family have been leaked online. The big news is that there will be three versions of the new Defender. The first two versions  – the 90 and 110 – will be launched for the 2020 model year. What appears to be a series of screen slides, detailing the three-model Slovakian-built Defender family, the engine line-up as well as the trim and options have been covertly photographed and uploaded to Land Rover enthusiast forum Disco4.com. It’s not known where the leak took place, but it appears to be an internal JLR briefing. Like all future JLR models, the Defender family is based on the new aluminium MLB platform, which can be engineered as a conventional mild hybrid, a plug-in hybrid and a pure EV version.  There’s no detail as to whether all Defenders will be mild-hybrids as standard and just one plug-in hybrid will be offered in 2020 and 2021. The Defender 90 is described in the slides as the ‘halo image icon’ of the Defender family and is aimed at ‘the young, affluent fun seekers’. The shortest Defender will be available in 5 and 6 seat options, which suggests that a three-abreast front seat is possible. The 90 is also a surprisingly compact machine, measuring just 4.323m long. It is marginally the tallest of the three versions, at 1.927m. The wheelbase measures a just 2.587m. All three Defenders are the same width at 1.999m, though there’s no detail on whether this is measured across the mirrors. Also on sale in 2020 will be the new Defender 110. Land Rover describes this as the ‘definitive’ model in the family. It will be available in 5, 6 and 7 seat forms. It’s aimed at ‘couples, the self-employed and adventurers’. The 110 is 4.758m long and has a rather longer 3.022m wheelbase and is a tad lower at 1.916m. Perhaps the biggest surprise is the Defender 130, which is destined for launch in 2022 and so unlikely to be seen testing until the very end of 2019.  This is designated by JLR as a ‘Premium Explorer’ for ‘families and active lifestyle and travel’ and will come with eight seats. The 130 is a significant 5.1m long, although it has the same 3.022m wheelbase as the 110, suggesting a long rear overhang and substantial boot space. Under the bonnet of the 90 and 110 models, there will be a choice of three petrol and three diesel engines in 2020 and 2021 and all Defenders will come as standard with an autobox and all-wheel drive.  The diesel units will be offered in D200, D240 (four cylinder) and D300 300bhp (straight-six) forms, with 0-62mph times of around 10.0secs, 8.3secs and 7.4secs respectively. It’s understood the D300 will be the only diesel engine offered in North American markets and arrives for the 2021 model year. Three petrol Defender engines – the P300, P400 and the P400e Plug-in Hybrid – will be on sale immediately. These are thought to all be straight-six units, and will be sold in the US, where many States use the same onerous ‘SULEV’ pollution regime as California. According to the leak, the plug-in P400 offers a torque boost from 400Nm to 645Nm and a 5.9sec 0-62mph time, Autocar understands. There will be three base models in the Defender line-up, the first-year production X, Standard and, for 2021, the X-Dynamic. The high-end X will offer a fixed spec and ‘limited options’ for 2021, before being offered with a wider spec for the 2021 model year. The Defender X will be sold in powerful P300 and P400e petrol forms in 2020, with the D300 diesel being added to a lengthened options list in 2021. The Defender ‘Standard’ will be available with the full range of engine options from launch, aside from the D300 which arrives in 2021.  Customers will be able to select a further three specification levels: S, SE and HSE.  According to the leaked presentation slides, the ‘Standard’ specification Defenders will get 18in wheels, LED headlamps, 8-way adjustable fabric front seats, a 140W audio system with six speakers, a 7in instrument cluster and a 10in touchscreen. ’S’ specification Defenders add front fog lamps, 12-way adjustable ‘semi-powered’ seats in ‘Performance’ fabric and a 12in digital instrument cluster. The SE gets 20in ‘Apollo’ wheels, Premium LED headlights with high beam assist, powered rear-view mirrors and a passive entry system, 14-way adjustable electric front seats, a 370W Meridian audio system with 10 speakers and automatic parking. Defender HSE models gets Matrix LED headlamps, 18-way adjustable Windsor leather electric memory seats with climate control and what JLR calls a ‘Drive Pack and Park Pack’. The launch ‘X’ model gets darkened 20in wheels and taillights, more highly-specced front seats and a ‘Co-Pilot’ pack.  On top of this, JLR will offer four option packs (Capability, Interior Upgrade, Exterior and Convenience) as well as stand-alone options. The latest spy shot of the upcoming 2020 Land Rover Defender comes from an unlikely source: the vehicle itself. A photo of the vehicle’s infotainment system picturing what appears to be a full-on side view of the new Defender has been making the rounds on Twitter. Land Rover is known to project a profile of its vehicles on the display cluster like that, so thats legit.The All-New Defender! It was removed, but not before the Internet took ownership of the images and details. The kit includes a “detailed inline six-cylinder engine,” which hints at a similar powerplant in the actual model. Mercedes-AMG leaked its own 2020 CLA 45 S via its online configurator

Mercedes-Benz accidentally spoiled the reveal of its small performance sedan, the new CLA 45 S, by uploading a photo of it early May to its online vehicle configurator. The image was first found by German publication Auto Bild, who discovered it while browsing the CLA 35 on Mercedes-Benz’ car configurator. When AMG Night Package was selected, there was a glitch in the system that showed a grey CLA-Class with red wheel calipers and an CLA 45 S badge instead of the yellow car that was in the body of the configurator. There’s no doubt about the vehicle being the CLA 45 S: larger wheels and quad exhausts round out the differences between the CLA 35 and the hot version. The image on the site has since been removed. In a conversation with Tobias Moers of AMG, Autoblog discovered the AMG CLA 45 S could make up to 420 horsepower, which is a lot for a small turbo-four to make, but with modern technology, we’re sure AMG has designed the danger out of it. The CLA 45 S will also feature a different transmission to handle all that power, with eight speeds instead of the seven used by the 35, which will only have around 387 horsepower. The 45-series vehicles are also expected to have a slightly different four-wheel-drive system with a drift mode. Now that the model has been leaked, it’s possible Mercedes-AMG will fully reveal the vehicle sooner than anticipated.
