This 1918 Pierce-Arrow race car is made out of dessert

A race car you can eat? Sounds like the perfect combination for an era when the drivers were fat and tires were skinny. The Broadmoor Resort in Colorado springs has been building the sweetest car in the world since 1964, and each year they choose a vehicle to replicate in dessert form. This year, their selection was a Pierce-Arrow Touring Car from 1918.The vehicle is special to the resort, as in 1922, it was transformed into The Broadmoor Special by owner Spencer Penrose, master mechanic Angelo Ciminp and chauffeur Harry McMillen. The vehicle would go on to compete in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, where it took fourth place in 1926 and 1930.The time-lapse video of its construction shows 15 pastry chefs adorning the vehicle model with the tasty treats. It took two weeks to bake all the pastries.According to the Broadmoor Blog, the vehicle is composed of over 375 pounds of all-purpose flour, 425 whole eggs, 300 pounds of dark chocolate, 47 pounds of molasses, 412 pounds of butter and myriad other ingredients. The car looks impressive, but wouldnt have happened if it werent for the two magical wood workers that made the frame for the cookies to sit on.The real vehicle will be on display at the Penrose Heritage Museum, which is open Monday through Saturday from 9 to 5 pm and Sunday from 1 to 5pm. The museum is owned and operated by the El Pomar Foundation, a charitable foundation established by Spencer and Julie Penrose in

Ford partners with McDonald’s to create car parts made of coffee

Ford Motor Company and McDonald’s USA will soon be giving vehicles a caffeine boost by using part of a familiar staple in the morning routine, coffee beans, in vehicle parts such as headlamp housing.Ford Cars and coffee? Its usually a gathering of car folks that takes place on the weekend, early in the morning. But that aint the kind of cars-meet-coffee crossover Fords researchers are interested in.The automaker is instead, believe it or not, teaming up with McDonalds to turn the restaurants coffee bean waste into car parts, to help reduce Fords carbon footprint. The parts are made of coffee chaff, which is the dried skin of the coffee beans that naturally falls off during the process of roasting them. Chaff is usually used for garden mulch, but through an innovative process, Ford thinks its able to turn them into reinforcing material for plastic. The chaff is heated under pressure in a low-oxygen environment, and mixed with other materials to create pellets that can be formed into car components. Headlight housings and other interior and underhood components could be made from the material. The bioplastic made from the chaff is up to 20 per cent lighter and uses 25 per cent less energy to mold. The heat properties of the chaff are also better than the components that Ford currently uses.A lighter car that uses less energy to build will help Ford reach its targeted CO2 emissions reductions, as well as better its fuel economy ratings. So next time you pull up to a cars and coffee event in your Mustang and somebody offers you a hot cup of joe, tell them youve already got one under the hood. Then get a regular coffee, before they look at you

LEGO made a life-size Harley-Davidson Fat Boy to celebrate new set

Just in time for the beginning of the end of riding season, LEGO has released a Creator Expert series Harley-Davidson Fat Boy model. And because it’s basically just what you do now, it’s also built a life-size replica to go with it. You can only own one of them, though. LEGO worked with Harley-Davidson to create the 33-cm model, which comes together from 1,023 pieces, including bits that make up a Milwaukee-Eight engine with pistons that pump when you spin the rear wheel; a moveable gearshift; brake; dual exhaust pipes; functioning kickstand; teardrop fuel tank; handlebar steering; and a speedometer. “It’s been exceptionally exciting for Harley-Davidson to collaborate with the LEGO Group — another brand that champions creativity and expression,” said Heather Malenshek, Chief Marketing Officer at Harley-Davidson. “Not only do we want customers to be inspired by the end result, we want them to enjoy the building process.”The set goes on sale August 1, or July 17 for LEGO VIP.  Then theres the life-size model. Its not actually drivable like that Bugatti Chiron, but it does a pretty good imitation, with Wi-fi-animation control for light and sound effects, and silver-coated parts. It took LEGOs Master Builders some 865 hours to click together its 69,569 pieces.Harley and/or LEGO fans can check out the life-size LEGO Harley Fat Boy at select LEGO stores and Harley-Davidson

McLaren made a mini electric 720S for kids

McLaren is hoping to win over the next generation of supercar drivers with its latest product, an electric 720S made for children. The McLaren 720S Ride-On is the second small electric vehicle from the British manufacturer — they did a tiny P1 a few years back — designed for children from age three to six. Stylistically, the 720S Ride-On is clearly cut from the same cloth as the adult-sized version, but at a starting price of just £315 ($523), it’s a whole lot more attainable. And according to a Youtube preview of the mini McLaren in action, it can handle an adult behind the wheel, so long as you’re fine using the steering wheel between your shins.  The 720S Ride-On brings the realism with functioning butterfly doors, engine noise that plays from the speakers when the accelerator is depressed, front lights, and brake lights that illuminate when the brakes are applied. It’s also got faux exhaust tips, and ‘carbon-style elements’. And don’t worry about your kid having all the fun, because there’s also an optional remote function that lets you control where the car goes or doesn’t go. The McLaren 720S Ride-On comes in a bunch of colours including Papaya Spark (available only at official McLaren retailers), Saros Grey, Onyx Black, Belize Blue, Azores Orange and more, and is available for order now at select toy

A Model X-rated video made ‘Tesla’ the top search term on PornHub overnight

Despite its size, this Model X P90D can go from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds. Now that’s ludicrous.Andrew McCredie/Postmedia It didn’t take long for people to make liberal use of Tesla’s semi-autonomous Autopilot mode in all sorts of creative ways. Shortly after its debut, we were inundated with reports popping up everywhere of people behind the wheel taking naps, using their phones and, y’know, just generally ignoring everything Elon Musk told them not to do in the owner’s manual. We knew, too, it was just a matter of time before the Model S, 3 and X’s hands-free capabilities would let people start having sex on the road, too. We were just caught a bit off-guard to see the act consummated in a porno film. Yes, a video uploaded to website PornHub shows adult actress Taylor Jackson going on a Tinder date with a man driving what appears to be a Tesla Model X; less than a minute after entering the vehicle, things turn very Model X-rated indeed. After some affectionate events, the driver turns on the Autopilot to allow Jackson to sit on his lap. Obviously, we can’t post the video here, but suffice it to say, uh—they had sex. The video was uploaded just before the end of April, and according to Jackson, it at least briefly hit number one on the most-searched-for terms on the entire website. While she seems quite proud, as any artist would, this could have ended much worse than it did. Because while Tesla’s Model lineup does spell S-3-X-Y, we’re not sure this is exactly what Elon intended. (Or maybe he did. Who knows?) At any rate, this should never be attempted; in an emergency situation, it would be very hard for the driver to react properly when, well, otherwise engaged. According to The Next Web, Autopilot crashes are much less likely than those caused by humans, but Autopilot still isn’t a fully autonomous system. It still requires human input—and this doesn’t

Tesla just made it harder to buy its cheapest US$35,000 electric car

Tesla announced a series of changes to its vehicle lineup and pricing mid-April, including making it tougher to buy its newly available entry-level US$35,000 car. All Tesla vehicles now come with the Autopilot driver-assistance system as standard, the company said in a blog post late Thursday. The Model 3 with Standard Plus battery used to cost US$37,500, plus US$3,000 for Autopilot. I t now costs US$39,500 with Autopilot included. And a standard Model 3 costing US$35,000 just became harder for customers to actually order. Deliveries of the vehicle at that price point – the big promise of the Model 3 when it was first unveiled in March 2016 – are just beginning this weekend. Customers who want this version from now on won’t be able to get from Tesla’s online ordering menu — they’ll have to call or visit a store instead. Tesla’s constantly shifting approach to its lineup and retail strategy has rattled investors and stoked confusion. Ten days after signaling an almost complete withdrawal from physical stores, the company backtracked and said more locations would stay open than planned. The carmaker is now backing away from its online-only ordering approach with the standard Model 3. Tesla is also offering a Model 3 lease for the first time, though with a big caveat. Customers won’t have the option to buy the car at the end of the lease because the company plans to use the vehicles in a forthcoming Tesla ride-hailing network, according to the blog post. On its ordering website, Tesla’s default options are for customers to make a US$3,000 down payment and spend a total of US$4,199 at signing of a three-year, 10,000-mile annual lease. The monthly payment due on that basis is US$504. CEO Elon Musk first talked about his vision of a Tesla shared-vehicle fleet when he unveiled his Master Plan Part Deux in July 2016. After the company scheduled an event later this month for Musk and other executives to tout Tesla’s self-driving technology, the CEO hinted at the plan
