Sin or win? Mint Supra becomes Cummins-diesel-powered off-roader

Before we even had time to digest the mass of metal that is the Tesla Cybertruck, we found this Supra porridge were now trying to get down. What youre looking at here was an Mk4 Toyota Supra, but we’re not sure it can be called that now that it has a Cummins diesel engine and all this off-roading accoutrement.Unlike the base of many builds of its kind, this donor car wasnt a wreck, but a perfectly fine twin-turbo manual Mk4 Supra (pictured below) which isnt even the cheapest Supra option. Its builder, Ashley Whitsey, simply wanted it to bedifferent. Whitsey posted a gallery of photos and some rough specs to the Gambler 500 Rally Facebook group.  The desert-whip rides on air suspension with 30-inch tires up front and 32-inchers in the rear, with a lift kit, custom clutch, boosted manifold and a new turbo. The 12V Cummins straight-six turbo diesel plant replacing the original 2JZ twin-turbo is good for 250 horsepower and 620 lb.-ft. of torque, but its Dr. Frankenstein believes he could bump figures to 500 horses and 1,000 lb.-ft. with a few extra tweaks.Other angles of the rod-style Supra can be seen on Ashs personal Instagram feed, the bio of which reads, rather tellingly, because I can probably means I shouldnt. You said it, Ash.But what do you think? There is a certain bad-ass-ness to it. Is this a sin or a win?Take Our Poll

Genesis launches Mint EV concept

Genesis launches Mint EV concept The premium brand is looking to expand into Europe Genesis has unveiled the Mint Concept ahead of the New York Motor Show, a pure-electric city car that aims to focus on style and urban driving. The two-door EV has an estimated range of 200 miles on a single charge, and features 350 kW ultra-rapid charging capabilities. A compact footprint and low-slung shape aim to help aerodynamics and suitability for driving in towns and cities, while also giving the Mint an air of ‘fun-to-drive’ nature – think Mini in concept. Though not prevalent in Europe yet, Genesis is Hyundai’s premium brand, and the Hyundai-Kia group is one of the world’s leading EV manufacturers currently, with a line up that boasts the likes of the Kona Electric & Ioniq Electric from Hyundai, and the e-Niro & forthcoming Soul EV from Kia. Essentially, the experience and systems are in place to not dismiss the Mint as yet another concept without any solid foundations. It is not yet confirmed for production, though many will hope that it will be made. Stylish and premium yet compact EVs are not currently available, but Honda has already said it’s Urban EV will be pitched in that market, and the Mini E will cover that space a little, so it appears that manufacturers think there are buyers out there to put their money down. Genesis as a brand will launch in Europe next year, with confirmed plans for sales in the UK. Although currently made up primarily of premium saloons, a model like the Mint would be a welcome one for many.

Genesis unveils the Mint Concept, a teensy, luxury all-electric city car

Genesis just pulled the cover off its newest product at a rather avant garde NYC event ahead of the 2019 New York International Auto Show. There was music and dancing and even a sort of fashion show. We half-expected Kanye to appear from the mist. And of course, there was the car, the Genesis Mint Concept, a two-door, two-passenger all-electric vehicle with no trunk, scissors-style side openings and a screen in the centre of an oblong steering wheel. Now that’s how to unveil a concept! At least, that’s how to unveil a concept as funky as this. View this post on Instagram Oh hai, it’s the Genesis Mint EV Concept. #genesis #ev #conceptcar #mint #genesismint #nyautoshow #nyautoshow2019 A post shared by Roberto Baldwin (@strngwys) on Apr 16, 2019 at 4:20pm PDT Whatever casual vibe you get from its diminutive, hatchback-esque stature and Hunter Green matte paint evaporates when you catch a glimpse of the interior, or how the rear windows/trunk doors open. The interior experience is what Genesis calls reductive and decluttered, featuring lots of leather and a new digital UX. It’s got an oblong steering wheel, with a rectangular screen displaying primary info dead in its centre and six circular copper Graphic User Interface dials mounted around the wheel. In place of rear seats or any sort of conventional rear storage space is a “parcel shelf,” which is accessed by those nifty scissor-style openings. Specs are sparse, but Genesis says the mini-EV should manage 322 kilometres per charge and be capable of 350-kWh quick charging. In the “lightweight runabout,” that 350-kWh ability will probably result in a speedy re-up, making the Mint convenient for the city life it was designed for. So, is this concept just a hype machine or is it destined to come to fruition? According to Manfred Fitzgerald, the global head of Genesis, who addressed reporters ahead of the reveal, Genesis is all in if its parent company Hyundai Motor Group gives the green light.
