2020 Honda Accord Touring 2.0T A (former) Honda owner in the Toronto area is expressing frustration with the automaker after it allegedly told him it knew where his stolen vehicle was but couldnt let him know since he hadnt paid for the companys optional tracking service.Layth Ablhd of Vaughan, Ontario has his 2019 Accord swiped from his driveway in the middle of the night, according to a Global News report.According to a neighbours security camera, it was taken around 5 a.m. Ablhd phoned the police, who contacted Honda Canada to see if the vehicle could be tracked. The representative said it could but not for free.Ablhd alleges the Honda rep on the other end of the phone said the companys tracking tech was showing him exactly where the car was during the call, but he could not disclose the location to Ablhd or the police officer, who had jumped on the call as well via speakerphone, because Ablhd was not subscribed to HondaLink, the companys emergency response system. The investigating officer asked to speak with the reps manager, who said the police would need to present a warrant if they wanted to know the location of the vehicle. Ablhd said he had not been informed of the optional service when he purchased his Accord, and that he would have bought it if hed known of it. Ablhd immediately signed up for the $148 subscription, and a few minutes later called the rep back, but they then said it was too late Honda was no longer getting a signal from the car. This customer did not have an active HondaLink subscription, which is required to locate the vehicle, clarified John Bordignon, a Honda Canada brand spokesperson. Without an active subscription, the police would have to present a warrant to activate the location services on the vehicle and no such warrant was provided.Contrary to what Ablhd and the officer were told on the phone, however, Bordignon says At no time was Honda or its HondaLink provider aware of the location of this vehicle.Honda Canada said it would reimburse Ablhd for the cost of the HondaLink

Jaguar Land Rover owner open to further partnerships
The head of Jaguar Land Rover’s parent company is open to the British firm seeking further partnerships with other car makers – saying it is the “only way” to fund the necessary investment in future technologies. Jaguar Land Rover has suffered heavy losses in recent months due to falling sales, which have also hit the profits of its Indian parent firm Tata Motors. But JLR is facing the need to invest in electric powertrains, autonomous systems and mobility services for the future. Jaguar Land Rover has agreed a partnership with the BMW Group to jointly develop electrified powertrain components. Autocar has learned that partnership is set to expand to include engine sharing – and, as revealed in this week’s magazine, could lead to select JLR models being built on BMW Group platforms in the future. Speaking at Tata Motors’ AGM, chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran said that he was open to more partnerships in the future. “Like any other auto company, JLR has to invest in future technologies to address the move away from (internal combustion engines) to hybrid and electric,” he said. “It also has to invest in future models, make necessary investments in areas like shared mobility, and also beyond that. That’s very important to stay alive in this ecosystem. “All this means is there is a need for capital investment if you want to be future-ready. The only way to handle this need for (capital investment) is additional investment through partnerships, because we want to spread the investment. There are many discussions underway, from tactical to strategic.” Asked about future partnership opportunities, Chandrasekaran added: “These opportunities keep coming and we keep evaluating every one of these opportunities and as long as it is in the interest of Tata Motors, we will forge such partnerships so that we are able to address the capex.” Tata was recently reported to be in talks to sell Jaguar Land Rover to the French PSA Group, which it denied at the

Jerk-face Tesla owner parks on stranger’s lawn, steals power for 12 hours
Meanwhile, in Florida…A driver who parked on a stranger’s lawn and plugged his Tesla into an electrical outlet overnight without permission is being let off the hook by the friendly homeowner. It’s bad enough to park on someone’s lawn, but to steal their power, too? That takes balls, or a lack of brain cells, or both. Florida TV station WPBF 25 interviewed Phil Fraumeni, whose lawn was used as a temporary parking lot/charging station by the white Model 3. And lucky for the entitled driver, Fraumeni seems to be a delightful, neighbourly and quite forgiving individual. The Lake Worth man was woken up in the morning by his lawn guy who asked him to move his car parked on the grass near the sidewalk so he could mow. But Fraumeni’s car was in the garage, and he didn’t know anyone who owned a white Model 3 besides. So, after sending a picture to his wife and having her briefly think it was a gift for her, Fraumeni called the police, believing the car may have been stolen. It wasn’t, though, and soon a young man and woman showed up and explained that they’d run out of juice in the neighbourhood while visiting a friend and taken it upon themselves to leave the car topping up on the lawn from midnight the night before. The police explained to the driver that this was, in fact, not cool, dude. Being the gem that he apparently is, Fraumeni didn’t press charges or even ask the couple to pay for the power they’d stolen. So, free charging at Fraumeni’s place, we guess. Pass it on.

Lowered VW’s owner says speed bumps are ‘discrimination,’ asks town to pay
Christopher Fitzgibbon and his lowered VW PassatMichael Cowhey / SWNS via the Daily Mail An Irishman whose lowered Volkswagen sedan suffered damage driving over his hometown’s speed bumps wants the town to pay for its repair because, he says, the traffic-calming measures are a form of discrimination. Christopher Fitzgibbon, 23, wants his small town of Galbally in Limerick, Ireland to pay for around £2,000 ($3,400) worth of damages done by driving his lowered VW Passat over the speed bumps, according to The Daily Mail. Fitzgibbon modified the car in March of 2016 to sit about four inches above the ground, but he claims the new speed bumps, installed in September of 2018, are six inches high, which means he can’t drive over them. “I feel discriminated against because I’m driving a modified car – it’s lowered, so it’s four inches off the road – and I’m being denied my right to drive on these roads,” he says. It doesn’t matter what speed I’m at either—I could be driving at 5 km/h or 80 km/h and it wouldn’t make a difference. Having to avoid the speed bumps has meant he can’t drive through the town on his commute, which used to be 50 kilometres. He also says he can’t drive into town to visit the post office, the shops or the pub (which you shouldn’t drive to anyway). Now he must use an alternate route that adds more mileage. Limerick City and County Council has responded by disputing Fitzgibbon’s claim regarding the height of the speed bumps; even though he says they are six inches tall, according to the town’s Traffic Calming Policy Document, they are in fact 75 millimetres tall, or less than three

Jaguar Land Rover owner denies deal to sell firm to PSA is close
The owners of Jaguar Land Rover have denied reports that they are close to finalising a deal to sell the car firm to the PSA Group. The Press Association has reported seeing a ‘post-sale integration document’ that has been circulated within JLR, highlighting the benefits of the company being sold by Tata Motors to PSA, which comprises Citroën, DS, Peugeot and Vauxhall/Opel. A source also told the PA that “things are moving quickly behind closed doors.” In reponse, Tata Motors re-affirmed a previous statement saying that “there was no truth to rumours that Tata Motors is looking to divest its stake in JLR.” A PSA Group spokesperson told PA that it was in “no hurry” to make any acquisitions, but added it would “consider” any oportunities that came along. PSA boss Carlos Tavares has been open in recent months about his desire to expand the group, either through acquisitions or partnerships with other car firms. Tavares led PSA’s purchase of Vauxhall/Opel from GM in 2017. The Peugeot family, which owns the largest stake in the PSA Group, also recently said it would back future mergers or acquisitions, including with the FCA Group. In an exclusive interview with Autocar India recently, Tavares was asked about the firm’s interest in Jaguar Land Rover. He said that it would be good for PSA to have a luxury brand, and that the company was “considering all opportunities,” adding he would be interested “as long as it’s not a distraction.” Tavares said that there had been no discussions with Tata Motors about Jaguar Land Rover yet. He also said that “we don’t have a specific target but if there are opportunities, of course, we will consider it.” Asked further about adding a luxury brand that would sit about DS, Tavares said: “Why not? Why shouldn’t we discuss it? It depends on what kind of value creation we could generate.” Jaguar Land Rover has struggled in recent months, hit by falling demand for diesels and the decline of the Chinese market. Recent heavy losses, including an asset writedown, also caused the Tata Group to post a quarterly loss. Tavares cited PSA’s success in turning around Vauxhall/Opel, which posted its first profit in 20 years recently, suggesting it could have a similar impact on the strugging British firm: “With Opel, we have demonstrated that we can turn around a company that was in the red for 20 years, in 12 months. So this is something we know how to do.” Tavares said the group’s current focus was on its ‘Push to Pass’ strategic growth strategy to expand the company’s global presence, including expansion into the US, Russian and Indian markets. In a statement to Autocar India following its interview with Tavares, Tata Motors said that Jaguar Land Rover was not for sale. Following Jaguar Land Rover’s 2018 losses, Tata’s boss had previously affirmed its commitment to the
