During the live event, Elon Musk played a clip of the Cybertruck running away (uphill!) with Ford’s popular pickup hitched to its back bumper in a tug of war, the F-150 struggling to gain any sort of traction. In response, a VP at Ford called the contest unfair and demanded a rematch, saying Tesla cherry-picked a two-wheel-drive F-150. But when Musk said “Bring it on,” other talking heads at Ford seemed to walk the challenge back, telling Fox News it had been intended as a “tongue in cheek” comment. LISTEN: In this week’s episode, we talk about all the electrifying news coming out of the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show with Postmedia Driving senior writer David Booth, including Ford’s bold Mustang Mach-e SUV. And, of course, we get Booth’s take on Tesla’s Cybertruck. Plugged In is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and Google Podcasts. Is the player not working? The custom big rig dubbed “Thor24” lines up two 12-cylinder Detroit diesel engines that, along with a nitrous boost pack, can get its 32,000-pound frame up to 200 km/h. Four 12-foot chutes help to bring it back down. US$12M seems like a deal, because that flaming paint job is priceless. This Ohio dealership is selling 1,000-horsepower Mustangs for US$55,000It’s called “Project M,” and it’s one wild pony. At the base: a Mustang GT (300a) with a modest interior and a Level 1 Performance Pack with automatic transmission. But Lebanon Ford in Ohio was able to saddle the pony with 1,000 horsepower from a Whipple supercharger or D1X Procharger, an upgraded fuel pump, a larger heat exchanger. The wildest part is the price of just CDN$73,000, which undercuts the 797-horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye by $20,000. The Internet’s most hilarious reactions to the Tesla Cybertruck revealIt was big news. Partly because it’s an electric pickup finally here, partly because it looks like a couple of stacked triangles, and partly because, in the process of revealing it live, Tesla unintentionally broke not one but two windows while attempting to display their durability. Twitter almost instantly had a roundup of hilarious memes reacting to the Cybertruck, while Wall Street showed its uncertainty with a 6-per-cent drop in Tesla stock price, and more than a few people pointed out its proximity in looks to a certain time-travelling coupe. Horseplay a la highway—French police spot pony in passenger seatA woman piloting a microcar near Marseille in Southern France was stopped by police watching for distracted drivers after they saw a curious passenger riding shotgun. When they realized that, oui, c’est un cheval, the authorities snapped a pic and arrested the woman, who excused the fact she had a horse in the small car because she didn’t have the license to drive a more appropriately sized van. Are we sure this wasn’t Florida? Feels like

GM’s electric pickup gets a fall 2021 on-sale date
2019 Chevrolet SilveradoDerek McNaughton / Driving GM CEO Mary Barra told investors at an event in New York on Thursday her companys first electric pickup will debut in showrooms in late 2021, and it will have a leg up on the competition. General Motors understands truck buyers, she said.Barra made the announcement hours before Tesla CEO Elon Musk was set to reveal that companys new Cybertruck. But other GM executives are confident Teslas pickup wont be in the same league as their electric truck.I suspect price-wise there might be some similarities, but I think in terms of size and capabilities, there might be a difference, Phil Brook, the vice president of marketing for GMs GMC brand, said in an interview. People who buy our trucks, they are very proud of the fact that theyll take their trucks anywhere, theyll get them dirty, then theyll wash them out and go to a five-star restaurant for dinner. So theyre not people who just drive them around and want to look good.Musk told a Tesla enthusiast podcast earlier this year he wants his truck, which is also aiming for a late 2021 market launch, to start at less than $50,000. During an October earnings call, he declared it will be the companys best product ever. But Tesla probably wont have the electric-truck market to itself for long, if at all. Amazon-backed Rivian Automotive plans to launch its R1T pickup late next year. Ford has vowed to start selling hybrid-electric and battery-electric versions of the F-150 starting in 2020, and GM has committed to producing plug-in pickups at a plant it had been planning to shutter in the Detroit area.Perhaps more importantly, Japanese automakers have spent two decades and billions of dollars trying to get in on the big pickup gravy train; 20 years after Toyota first started making the Tundra, they are still getting crushed by the Detroit Three, which control almost 92 per cent of the U.S. half-ton truck segment, according to IHS Markit.Customers who own Ram pickups are more loyal than owners of any other model line in the U.S., the researcher says, and brand loyalty to Ford or General Motors Chevrolet isnt far behind.Check Out Our Latest Auto Show CoverageTeslas Thursday night event bookends the press days for the Los Angeles Auto Show, where Ford generated buzz with the debut of the Mustang Mach-E electric SUV. But seeking attention of his own wasnt the only motivation for Musk to stage his truck reveal now and near the show. When announcing the date and locale, he joked on Twitter they were strangely familiar and shared a link to the opening credits and scene of the 1982 film Blade Runner, which was set in November 2019. He had referenced the movie before as inspiration for the pickups futuristic design.Musk is scheduled to begin making remarks around 8 p.m. local time at Teslas design center in Hawthorne,

2020 Ram 2500 Power WagonDerek McNaughton / Driving The sheer number of cubic dollars shovelled into the marketing of pickup trucks is said to rival that of the GDP of a small nation. All of the Detroit Three, plus the two Japan-based brands in the fight, want you to know their trucks are over-powered, over-built and over-testosteroned.Listening to them, itd be easy to believe no one even considers buying a pickup truck without eight-wheel-drive and the capability to tow a house not to mention that failing to own a truck at all is virtually unpatriotic.Your author is a lifelong patron at the Store of Truck, a place where experienced shoppers are adept at sussing out features they want versus the dross simply forced upon the market for the sake of innovation. We cast our gaze around the modern pickup truck marketplace and selected a payload of features we feel best represent the useful end of the innovation spectrum.Tailgate StepsWhen engineers at Ford introduced the tailgate step about ten years ago, other manufacturers were caught flat-footed by its popularity. Instead of innovating their way into the game, some chose to sling mud in the form of derisive commercials, sarcastically labeling the things man steps. Their enduring popularity, and the introduction of similar steps from other brands, proved that tack didnt work.Ford gave its tailgate step a rethink a couple of years ago, tucking the telescopic grab handle inside the gate and reducing the effort required to unfold the thing in bad weather. GM saw fit to carve toeholds into the corners of its truck bumpers, a feature which first appeared in the early 2000s on its Avalanche quasi-truck. Its GMC brand now incorporates a swing-out grab handle to use with its MultiPro tailgate this after years of poking fun at Ford. Hey, if you cant beat em, join em.Wild New TailgatesFor the better part of a century, pickup truck innovation focused on raw power and creature comforts. Lately, companies have been investing time and money not to reinvent the wheel, but to reinvent the tailgate.GMC kicked off the this-aint-your-fathers-tailgate movement with the aforementioned MultiPro Tailgate. With six different ways to be deployed, this origami wonder can even be outfitted with waterproof speakers to amp up your next tailgate party. At the Ram brand, a barn-door style tailgate has been engineered, allowing drivers to drop the gate in a traditional fashion or open it up like barn doors in a 60/40 split. This allows one to step closer to the truck box itself, improving access when trying to reach that item which has rolled juuust out of reach up near the cab.RamBoxSpeaking of Ram, the next innovation is very brand-specific. The aptly named RamBoxes are a pair of lockable storage units residing in the flanks of a Ram pickup bed. Accessible from curbside, they are big enough to store a rifle or collapsed fishing pole, proving that truck-makers do occasionally pay attention to the types of activities in which their typical customer takes part.In their current iteration, RamBoxes can be locked and unlocked with the trucks key fob; are illuminated for easy night access; and have a drain plug in the bottom for evacuating water after using the Rambox to store beverages.Other brands have made attempts to replicate this success, with varying results. Nissan offers a storage solution of similar ilk, albeit one that is removable and only accessible from inside the box. This is good in terms of it not being easily accessed by nefarious passersby, but renders it useless if the owner fits a tonneau cover.Towing CamerasYour author is not ashamed to admit it took him the better part of a summer to get comfortable towing the family camper, one which spans nearly 40 feet in length. That time frame would probably have been significantly shortened if towing cameras were the norm, rather than the exception, back in 2010.All brands have some form of backup camera, allowing easier solo hookup of truck and trailer. GM has recently been crowing about its phalanx of coverage, from cameras under the sideview mirrors looking down the truck flanks; to a trailer-mounted cam that keeps an eye on whats astern.Ram incorporates its optional air suspension into the mix, permitting low-speed reversing in its lowest setting so when the ball and pintle are aligned, the truck can raise and two can be married without having to exit and crank a handle on the trailers tongue jack.Backup Assists Ford, with the help of a QR-style sticker and a bit of programming, has figured out how to relieve the ignominy of getting all crossed up when reversing a trailer. Instead of sitting in the drivers seat and trying to remember which way to turn the wheel in order to fit your 40-ft camper into a tight spot, the Pro Trailer Backup Assist uses maths and the trucks electronic steering to help avoid an aneurysm.Armed with the length of the trailer and the distance of the axles from the tongue, a computer figures

After far too long, Nissan’s updated Frontier pickup is coming soon
2019 Nissan FrontierHandout / Nissan There are few sureties in life: death, taxes and the stale styling of the Nissan Frontier. Thanks to the companys glacier-like design cycle, the looks of the current Frontier are very nearly old enough to get a licence and drive themselves.Thats about to change, according to the gearheads at Automobile. In an interview with the mag at this weeks Tokyo Auto Show, Ivan Espinosa, corporate vice-president of global and Japan product planning, said a new Frontier is a priority for the company and will probably appear within the next calendar year.In a vacuum, those words arent much to go on. However, when asked about the new trucks styling, Alfonso Albaisa, global vice-president of design, went on to say it will have a spirituality of adventure and be bolder than the overall design direction of other Nissan products thanks to it being, yknow, a truck. Albaisa described the look as strong, and the expectation is itll be more than just an evolution of the current trucks styling. Your author, for what its worth, thinks the next Frontier will share design cues with the 2020 Titan. In addition to new duds, theres an excellent chance the next Frontier will also have new modes of motivation, even if it rides on the same old platform. The current truck allows customers to choose between an inline-four making 152 horsepower and a 4.0-litre V6 making 261 ponies. Neither are exactly cutting-edge technology, so any upgrade here will be a marked improvement.Despite its age, theres a solid argument to be made that Nissan doesnt need to rush in bringing a new Frontier to market. The current model is posting robust sales numbers, thanks in no small part to its price-leader status. Canadian customers can get into a King Cab 42 for less than $25,000. Absent of large changes since the mid-2000s, parts availability is vast and cheap. In the meantime, Nissan is busying itself with introducing the refreshed Titan truck. If the above timeline holds, itll be good practice for when they roll out a new Frontier next

Is this a Ford Bronco pickup — and with a removable roof?
Fords upcoming new Bronco might morph into a pickup truck with a removable roof, putting it nose-to-nose with the Jeep Gladiator, at least according to some newly-unearthed patent drawings.According to Ford Authority, the patents show a truck that appears to be the Ford Ranger yes, the same midsize that will donate its platform to the Bronco sport-utility.The patent shows a removable hardtop, with a windshield header, rear body structure and roof cap that clamps on.The patent application says the roof caps mounting system would allow it to be installed or removed by one person, a tougher job that takes two on a Jeep. The patents include a version with a sliding rear window.Previously-discovered Ford patents show a vehicle, believed to be the Bronco, with removable doors. Theyd undoubtedly be included alongside a take-off top, allowing a Bronco pickup to shed doors and roof as the Gladiator can. Putting a removable roof on the Bronco sport-ute would also put it in the same category as the completely-openable Wrangler. Given that the Wrangler begat the Gladiator, were pretty sure Ford wont turn down an opportunity for its Bronco to similarly shift into a truck as well.As youd expect, Ford isnt saying a word about the patent drawings. Were not even sure when the Bronco will formally break ground, although it may happen at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show in late November the same venue where, at the 2018 edition, the Gladiator made its first appearance, bumping up over a set of stairs on its way to the

News Roundup: Tesla cop car fail, backwards-facing Chevy pickup and when turkeys attack
Welcome to our weekly round-up of the biggest breaking stories on Driving.ca from this past week. Get caught up and ready to get on with the weekend, because it’s hard keeping pace in a digital traffic jam. Here’s what you missed while you were away.High-speed chase ends when Tesla police cruiser battery diesCalifornia police claim to be pleased with the performance of their fleet’s Tesla Model S cruiser, despite the fact that it recently outright quit on them in the middle of a high-speed chase. According to reports by The Mercury News, Fremont, California officer Jesse Hartman had to radio in during the pursuit of a “felony vehicle” to request another squad car join the chase as his Tesla was showing just 10 km of battery range. Gas-powered vehicles took over the pursuit only to give it up as the driver escalated their level of recklessness. The Tesla, which had to stop in San Jose to charge, had apparently been through two full shifts without a charge, prior to the chase. Video footage of this backwards-facing Chevy truck in action delights the worldBy installing its body onto its chassis in reverse and swapping interior features like the dash, wheels and pedals from the front to the rear of the cabin, a Massachusetts man has successfully created a very cool and very confusing vehicle. “There’s Ron in his backward-facing pickup truck,” says the man filming the unique build drive down the road in the above video. Ron’s full-size Chevrolet C/K 1500 is completely street-legal, with turn indicators where the headlights should be and front wheels that turn from under the bed of the truck. Watch Ron and his curiosity take a left at the end of the video. Ontario man reps himself in court and wins case over speeding ticket despite multiple errorsWhen you hear stories of people representing themselves in court, they don’t usually end like this. An Ontario man who decided against using a lawyer to help convince a judge that he shouldn’t have to pay a fine issued for allegedly driving 107 km/h in a 70 km/h zone has somehow come out on top despite having made multiple rather large missteps during the proceedings. The main issue: the man forgot to deny the allegations of speeding during the correct period of the trial. Luckily for him, his errors weren’t the only ones. The judge and justice of the peace also goofed the proceedings in several technical ways, ultimately resulting in the conviction being voided. There’s a lesson here, but it’s probably not one you want to learn. New Hyundai pickup to be built on ladder-frameIf executive rumours can be believed, Hyundai’s heavily anticipated new pickup truck will be built on a ladder-frame platform, and not on a unibody like the brand’s SUVs, as initially believed. Hyundai’s Australian CEO recently revealed the news, telling an Aussie publication that Kia may be sharing the ladder-frame development action for a pickup product of their own. “We’re going down that pathway and we’re working towards it,” the CEO told Which Car. “We just have to make sure that when it arrives, it’s a bloody ute.”Motorcyclist faces off against angry turkey at intersection in Toronto suburbIt’s nearly Thanksgiving and the birds are fighting back. A motorcyclist riding through the city of Whitby, Ontario, was confronted by a large male turkey who walked out into the middle of the intersection, circled the man and his bike several times, and then began to attack, leaping and kicking at his leg. The man defended himself in highly humane way, extending his leg to discourage the bird from attacking further. The hilarious incident was caught on camera by a fellow driver, giving us all something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving season.

Hyundai’s upcoming pickup will have a ladder frame, confirms exec
According to Hyundai, the Santa Cruz was not designed to be an alternative to a truck. The rumour mill continues to churn over Hyundais forthcoming pickup, a product that has seemingly been in gestation longer than a baby elephant.Recent scuttlebutt had the maybe-it-will, maybe-it-wont vehicle being built on a unibody platform think Santa Fe or Palisade with a bed instead of a cargo area and youd be on the right track. Now, however, it seems likely the Hyundai pickup will be built on a ladder-frame chassis. According to an interview with Aussie automotive site Which Car, development costs of a new separate frame will be shared with Kia, meaning theres every chance that brand will get a version of the truck as well.Whats clear to us is that if were going to bring a ute out, it had better be a ute, said John Kett, Hyundai Australia CEO, before setting off for the Outback to wrestle a gooly-gooly snake with his bare hands. Were going down that pathway and were working towards it. We just have to make sure that when it arrives, its a bloody ute.Clear as the water at Surfers Paradise, eh, mate? Kett went on to tell the Aussie gearheads the company is looking at a range of models, including two- and four-wheel-drive models and a possible array of cab configurations. Introducing anything other than a four-door Crew Cab would be a waste of time in this and many other countries, so, if a Hyundai pickup does materialize, expect it to launch in that body style.Another wrench in the works? Just because a company is selling a vehicle Down Under doesnt necessarily mean itll make it to this side of the pond. For proof of that in this very segment, one need look no further than Ford, a company which inexplicably refuses to sell the mighty Ranger Raptor in this country despite a favourable climate for doing so.Earlier this year, top brass at Hyundais U.S. unit spoke about the pickup truck in interviews, saying it would be very versatile and create a whole new class of buyers. Whatever form the truck takes, theres a good chance it will be manufactured in North America, thanks to the so-called Chicken Tax that levies stiff tariffs on imported pickup

Pickup Review: 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn 4’4 Crew Cab
2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn OVERVIEW The most hedonistic pickup a lot of money can buy PROSHandling, ride, interior décor CONSRelatively moderate performance VALUE FOR MONEYCompared with other pickups? Not so good. Compared with luxury sedans and SUVs with fewer hedonisms, pretty darn good. WHAT TO CHANGE?A little more power, a lot less lane departure warning and even more chrome. Go big or go home! HOW TO SPEC IT?Well, it’s pretty fully-loaded from the factory, but the active suspension option is worth the dosh. For purists, it is surely a tragedy, as genuinely cowboy as John Travolta was in his famed celluloid two-step. For luxury shoppers, its a way for the more, lets call them ruggedly individualistic, affluent to thumb their noses at the effete that park BMWs and Audis in their driveway. And, for Fiat Chrysler, well, its one sweet, incredibly high-profit way to line their pockets with long-amortized-on-the-production-line economies of scale margins that would make Porsche blanch. It, in case youre wondering, is the Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn, a pickup that, in my testers guise at least, costs $88,495. Yes, youre reading that right, a $100,000 (with taxes) pickup without a Tesla Im-saving-the-world-one-overpriced-EV-at-a-time lithium battery to be seen.Just for a little context. $88,495 will buy you a brand new E-Class Benz. And not one of those pathetic little wheezy E300 four-bangers Mercedes sells to pretenders to largesse, but a full-zoot 429-horsepower E53 with Stuttgart’s latest high-tech, turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six including EQ Boost and electric auxiliary compressor, no less! with enough cash left over to buy a decent used Harley.More of an SUV person, are we? Well, for that kind of dosh actually, you might have to pony up about $3,000 more you can get fully loaded BMW Sport Activity Vehicle. And again, not one of those piddly little baby Xs that theyre selling to advertising agency social media coordinators, but the top-of-the-line, expanded-because-people-wanted-to-spend-even-more-money X7s. You know, the SUV equivalent to BMWs flagship limo-in-waiting 7 Series. In other words, the Laramie Longhorn faces some pretty stiff competition from some pretty heady marques for the American Express Black cards of the rich and feckless. Now, heres the crazy part. It might be worth it.As frequent readers already know, I am no expert on the utilitarian aspect of truckdom. Oh, I hauled a bicycle around in the Rams plasticized bed and, in fact, carted an old dishwasher to the dump, er recycling depot, with it. But thats as close as I got to doing anything even remotely manly with it. No gravel, other than that trapped in the treads of my Nikes was hauled, no wood corded, my cowboying no less urbane than Mr. Saturday Night Fevers. But, my Lord, what a truly luxurious vehicle this is. For one thing, the ride is simply incredible for something that still has a live axle out back. Certainly, it is the smoothest damped pickup Ive ever driven. Before testing the big Ram, I read up on its latest technology, singling out the Frequency Response Damping and Active Level 4 corner air suspension for conspicuously pretentious labelling. Now I am a fan. FCA says its FRD shocks can tell the difference between low-speed inputs as in the loads that occur when a vehicle sways during hard cornering and high-speed perturbations the inevitable potholes resulting from shoddy Canadian roadwork. Im not quite sure how it tells the difference, but it must work because, even on the pockmarked roads of rural Quebec, the Laramie rode like a Lexus and handled like Porsche. OK, I exaggerate, but it was mighty impressive nonetheless. Then, theres the Laramies interior. I could go through the various visual such as the humongous, 12-inch vertically-oriented, Tesla-like touch screen or aural the Harman Kardon sound system but mere listing doesnt capture the sheer hedonism of this Rams interior. Now, to those raised on BMW or Mercedes Spartanism, the Rams cabin will be a little bit of a shock, what with Longhorn badges that look like outsized countrified belt buckles, map pocket clasps that are outsized countrified belt buckles and trim that looks, for all the world, like the reclaimed barn wood that is all the rage these days. The cabin was even Lexus-like silent thanks to Rams noise cancellation system and liberal use of acoustic glass. Indeed, the decor may be different but I can assure you the extravagance was equal to anything this side of a Bentley. Everyone who climbed aboard the big Ram aided, of course, by automatically retractable side steps was impressed, nay astonished, by the Longhorns incredible interior. Indeed, the least impressive thing about the new Ram is its 5.7-litre V8. Considering that it possesses a more-than-middling 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque some of that due to the 48 Volt eTorque mild hybrid system the performance was

Pickup Comparison: 2019 Ford F-150 Limited vs. GMC Sierra Denali
Eighty grand is a lot of dough. Enough to buy three Honda Civics, a cottage lot in Northern Ontario, a down payment on a triplex in Calgary. Or the money could go toward one of the most luxurious pickups on the market today the 2019 GMC Sierra Denali or 2019 Ford F-150 Limited. Ram, too, has an expensive truck, of course, one with a better interior than either the Ford or GM; but this test is between the two top guns of the Big Three, the Denali and the Limited.Ford steps into the ring at a disadvantage right from the start: Its F-150 is starting to show age after a complete refresh of the truck in 2015 when it went to an all-aluminum body, followed by a mild update for 2018, while GMCs top-line truck presents with an all-new design and parts. The Sierra Denali is definitely the shiny new toy here, and it looks the part with a Great Chrome Shark mouth grille, more blingy chrome bits all around, 22-inch wheels and a trick, MultiPro tailgate that expands on what a tailgate can do. The Ford suffers a little because it looks similar to so many other F-150s, the dandelion of the pickup truck world, demarcated only by equally big wheels, subtle metallic grille and only some Limited badging here and there.Under the hoods, these pickups could not have more different approaches to power: Ford has diverted a bunch of 3.5-litre high-output Raptor engines from the assembly line to enhance the appeal of the top-line Limited. As such, the Limiteds turbo V6 trumps the Sierra for pure grunt, delivering 450 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque funnelled through the same 10-speed automatic used in the Sierra. The Denali, on the other hand, uses a good ol fashioned V8. Its 6.2-litre returns 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. But heres the surprising part: Despite the Ford having more power and being about four-tenths of a second quicker to 96 km/h than the GM, according to Car and Driver, the Denali simply feels and sounds better overall. Oh sure, the Raptor V6 is quick, and it sounds throaty and meaty, but its just not as juicy as the V8. While both engines are smooth, even at wide-open-throttle, the Denalis 6.2 is chocolate cheesecake to Fords apple pie, delivering a richer experience. Thanks to the direct injection and Dynamic Fuel Management, which can shut down any number of cylinders to optimize power delivery and efficiency, the Denalis fuel economy was impressive, too, though it did fall short of the Ford overall. While a low of 10 L/100 km was registered on the highway in the Denali, our overall average was 13.1, while the Ford registers 12.6 overall but 11.2 highway close enough that neither of these trucks is more efficient than the other at the end of the day. That might not matter much anyway considering the cost of entry here. Both have automatic 4WD systems in addition to 2H, 4H and 4L.Where the Ford pulls ahead is in towing prowess, the F-150 able to haul up to 13,000 pounds with the proper package and set up, compared to the Sierras 9,300. Earning back some practicality in the face of outright muscle, the Sierra Denalis ProGrade trailering system and its comprehensive suite of trailering aides edges out those on the Ford, predictable given that the Sierra has newer technology. Both trucks have similar payloads close to 2,300 pounds and both ride very well, the quietness in each truck a testament to the amount of sound deadening and noise cancelling. Rough roads are, perhaps, somewhat better absorbed in the Denali, and its body exhibited less shake and shudder. The box of the Sierra is superior, too, having been widened roughly seven inches for a volume of 62.9 cubic feet on its 5-foot, 8-inch bed, compared to the 5-foot, 5-inch bed in Ford. The Denali bed can even be optioned in carbon fibre. But Ford has better LED cargo lighting because the bed lights are activated with a button inside the bed instead of a switch in the cab. As for tailgates, Fords fold-out step is okay, but the MultiPro twin gate is simply superior. The only hitch (pardon the pun) is the need to remove any ball hitch for the MultiPro before using it as a step, which would be a pain for those of us who leave hitches in regularly (and, no, its not against the law in most provinces to leave them in.) To prevent damage, the electronic tailgate will not drop the upper half if it detects a hitch in the receiver. GMs bumper steps are equally brilliant and can be used instead.GMs seat-mounted storage cubbies in the Denali are also useful, as are the storage bins under the rear seats, but Fords rear seats lift up to create a wide open area inside the cab, which can be useful for carrying big objects or, for contractors, lots of tools. Neither of these trucks is better, per se, in the back seat area, although the front seats in the Ford Limited clearly win for comfort and a massage function. One sit and youll be sold on these seats. Fords Limited also gets a massive, panoramic sunroof as opposed to a traditional sunroof in the

Fisker wants to enter the electric pickup field, too
If you captain an electric car company, you get to announce stuff by social media. Those are the rules, apparently. The latest to exercise their right to bypass the PR department with a major announcement is Henrik Fisker, self-proclaimed “Husband, Father, Risk taking, innovation loving, protocol challenging designer entrepreneur who turns dreams into reality, never gives up” and the founder and CEO of the U.S. EV startup Fisker Automotive, who recently Tweeted out a photo of a mystery electric pickup truck. “ALL automotive segments have to be electrified! After our Fisker electric SUV, we have already decided on our next 2 EV’s on the same platform!” Tweeted Fisker.ALL automotive segments have to be electrified ! So, there’s another player in a game that has yet to start. Elon has Tweet-confirmed the upcoming arrival of the Tesla pickup truck, Rivian is cooking up its own American-made challenger with the R1T, and now Ford has unveiled an electric F-150 capable of towing a 1-million-pound train. There are no further details about the Fisker pickup truck, but Henrik teasedthe ‘affordable’ US$40,000 electric SUV on his Facebook page with an image and a promise to unveil it fully in December. Perhaps alongside a pickup prototype? Better hurry. The competition is growing.
