Man arrested while attempting to patch his car’s tires with Band-Aids
A man in California arrested for being under the influence of drugs had tipped police off to his crime when they found him trying to patch the flat tire on his vehicle with Band-Aids and gauze. At about 6:00 a.m. on August 20, Mission Viejo police responded to a call about a suspicious man stopped by the side of the road to find a 26-year-old pulled over with flat front and rear tires on the drivers side. The man was attempting to patch the sidewall of his tires with supplies from an emergency medical kit. A passerby had noticed the car was parked by the side of the road, and that the man was filling the tires with gauze and Band-Aids. When police arrived, he was arrested for being under the influence of drugs.Whatever kind of drugs this man was on, they must have been wild enough he thought the tires would somehow heal like skin hence the first aid. Its unclear if the man bought the first aid kit to try and fix the flat after the fact; or if he already had it on hand. Either situation is pretty equally stupid.Obviously, we dont need to tell you not to try and fix your vehicle this way. We also dont have to tell you not to do drugs and drive your car around, but just in case you forgot either of those, this is a stark reminder of just how dumb (or high) some people can

Aston Martin teases new DBX SUV with video of grille
Aston Martin 5th / 6th November 2018 Photo: Drew Gibson Aston Martin is venturing into a brave new world with a brand-new vehicle, the DBX. It will be the first SUV the marque has ever built, and were finally getting a real glimpse of what it will look like when completed. The video shared by the brand to YouTube starts off with images of the DB11, a delicious two-door with a silver roof panel, but then changes to a silhouette of the DBX, underscoring the relationship between the two vehicles.Obviously, the second you see the grille it is instantly recognizable as an Aston Martin. The DBX looks to heavily borrow from the styling of the DB11 which is a good thing, because that is one gorgeous automobile. The teaser shows almost nothing else, and Aston Martin is keeping pretty mum on details of the DBX. This is brand-new territory for Aston, and were sure it will want to get it absolutely perfect before showing it off. Making it beautiful is a good start; making it drive well will be another.Speaking of, Aston has been testing the vehicle in harsh, off-road environments all over the world, although its unlikely most people who buy the SUV will use it that way.Being a real SUV, however, means it will have to be able to handle any type of weather system, and also offer a modicum of capability in terms of things like towing and payload ability, so hopefully Aston can deliver on those expectations. The DBX will be unveiled some time in December 2019, when all questions will be

This speed shop will fit your new Toyota Supra with a manual
2020 Toyota SupraHandout / Toyota Disciples at the Church of Supra cried out in collective anguish when they learned the 2020 version of the Toyota sports car would not be available with a manual transmission.Never mind that most modern boxes can shift gears faster than most humans, it was the loss of driver interaction that was mourned.Toyota knows this and, back at the North American Inernational Auto Show last January, chief engineer Tetsuya Tada told assembled media he was open to the idea of adding a stick (though he’s since gone back against that prospect). One performance outlet in Texas apparently couldnt wait anyway, and decided to engineer its own solution. First reported on at CarBuzz, a Texan outfit called European Auto Group is now taking customer deposits for a 2020 Toyota Supra manual swap. This is the same crew that stuck a gated six-speed manual in a Ferrari 430 Scuderia, so chances are good they know what theyre doing. Theyre also working on a stickshift 458 Italia, by the way.In a Canadian connection, the crew at EAG have tag-teamed with the Canucks at ProTuning Freaks in Ontario for help in offering a power boost in addition to the manual swap. Yes, that ProTuning, the one that works on BMWs. After all, at heart, a Supra shares much with a Z4. According to the report, EAG will source all its parts from BMW, meaning the greasy bits will likely come from Munich. But the madman behind it all says he would enjoy deploying a shift lever like the one found in Toyotas own GR HV Sports Concept, the one shown back in 2017. That would keep its interior appearance all in the family, at least.Cost? Figure on a bill somewhere in the $12,000 range, and to be without your Supra for about a

New Ford Focus RS comes with free vape because stereotypes
In what could possibly be the ultimate example of a stereotype coming to life, a Ford dealership is offering buyers of a Focus RS on its lot a free vape with their purchase.Prestman Auto of Salt Lake City is offering this used Ford Focus RS for US$25,900, and along with the car, is tossing in, too, the opportunity to try vaping and the culture that surrounds it.Jalopnik got in touch with the dealership to confirm the promotion was, indeed real, and not a joke like we assumed.Yes, there is a vape included in the purchase of the RS. We have a vape store next to our dealership that the buyer can go to and pick out a vape, a rep from the dealership said. We did that because most of the potential buyers for that car come with vape in hand. The Ford Focus RS garners the attention of mostly men in their mid-20s who enjoy something called hooning, saying things like hashtag-save-the-manuals, and then under-steering into a tree in a giant cloud of vape smoke (at least, if the rest of the stereotype is also true). This dealership hopes to offer all of that in one concise buying transaction. In all fairness, the car seems to be in pretty good shape, with only 34,576 miles on the odometer, which means the head gasket probably hasnt exploded yet (but maybe check before purchase). It does feature a six-speed manual transmission; and “Drift Mode,” for extra

Alvis is coming back with continuation cars now, too
Alvis, the British manufacturer of sports cars from 1919 to the late 1960s, is coming back to build a limited run of continuation cars. The company went bust in 1968, but was revived in 2012 as the Alvis Car Company, and even produced a few continuation cars based on the marques pre-war creations. Now, another run of continuation cars will be made based on its later 60s designs.Like a Morgan, an Alvis body uses an ash frame with aluminum stretched over it to keep it light; underneath these new cars bodies will be a steel frame left over from the 1960s yes, the 2019 Alvis will use the original unused, or NOS, frames from 50 years ago. The 3.0-litre engines that will sit up front are similarly built with new-old stock. Three body styles are available: Super Coupe, Cabriolet and Drop Head Coupe. Each vehicle takes up to 5,000 hours to complete, but the completed vehicles have a three-year warranty, and can even be specd with air conditioning and automatic transmissions, if you prefer more of a cruiser. The 3.0-litre cars will join the stable of Alvis pre-war 4.3-litre lineup, which consists of the Bertelli Sports Coupe, Lancefield Concealed Hood and Vanden Plas Tourer body styles. The best part about the continuations is that, because of the use of modern engine management, fuel injection and other loopholes, they can be driven on the road just as they would have 50 years ago. Aston Martin and Jaguar continuations can only be driven on tracks, so this is a huge leg-up for Alvis. No word is given on price, but if you have to ask, it usually means you cant afford it. We hope these cars MSRPs are at least, however, in the lower stratosphere for a

Lotus updates 2020 Evora GT with a laundry list of performance goodies
2020 Lotus Evora GTLotus Lotus has taken its flagship light sportscar, the Evora 410, and added more of everything that makes a sports car great to create the Evora GT more lightness, more downforce, and more power. To reduce weight, the rear bumper, front fenders, rear wheel arch vents, Sparco bucket seats, and side sills are carbon fibre, and if you want it even lighter, you can spec the door sills, rear diffuser, and rear trunk hatch in carbon fibre as well. With all that extra weight taken off, Lotus added a new front splitter and rear diffuser, giving the Evora GT an extra 141 pounds of downforce to keep it stuck to the ground. The side of the car is also sculpted to reduce drag, and front wheel arch louvres and carbon fibre ducts behind the rear wheels vent away high-pressure air. Power comes from a Toyota-sourced V6, and although that doesnt sound that interesting at first, 416 horsepower from 3.5 supercharged litres should change your mind thats an extra six horsepower over the Evora 410. The engine sits behind the driver and is paired to a six-speed manual, letting the Lotus hop from zero to 96 km/h in 3.8 seconds a tenth of a second quicker than the available automatic. As for torque, 317 lb.-ft. is available on manual cars, while the automatic gets 332. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires are wrapped around 19-inch forged wheels, and lightweight two-piece disc brakes bring it all to a halt.As Lotus gears up to release the Evija and trigger the beginning of the end of its gasoline-powered sports cars, the Evora GT surely be remembered as one of the greats. Well be sad to see it go, but well love to watch it leave.Canadian pricing has not been announced, but in the U.S., the Evora GT will start at
